# keyword-deep-dive

This skill studies one keyword: reads the Google SERP, inspects the top three competitors and returns a 90-day ranking plan. Useful when you are deciding whether a query is worth chasing.

## What it does

Give the skill a target keyword and it searches Google, reads the top ten results and works through the top three in full. For each of those it records the domain, the content format, an approximate word count, the angle, freshness signals and any E-E-A-T markers. It then classifies the dominant intent as informational, commercial investigation, transactional or navigational.

Zero-click risk gets its own line: how often searches end without a visit, what a featured snippet does to CTR, how an AI Overview shifts clicks. Active SERP features are listed too — People Also Ask, video carousel, local pack — along with a read on whether the results look stable or turbulent. When the dates and titles don't make it clear, the skill says so rather than guessing.

What comes back: a keyword profile, a competitive read of the top three, content gaps, a ranking strategy, two title tag options and one meta description, plus a timeline estimate. If a page already targets the keyword, you get a position diagnosis and a list of quick wins instead of a from-scratch plan. Only the keyword itself is required; no keyword tool sits behind it. Reference files in `references/` cover the position-to-CTR curve, AI Overview impact, SERP feature detection, volatility heuristics, difficulty from SERP signals and intent matching — loaded as each step needs them.

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/inhouseseo/superseo-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/keyword-deep-dive/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- judge whether a keyword is winnable before writing anything
- read the SERP intent correctly on a mixed query
- find subtopics the top three pages skip
- weigh zero-click risk and AI Overview impact
- lay out a 90-day plan for a single page

## Example prompts
- Run a deep dive on the keyword “best espresso grinder” — intent, top 3 competitors, 90-day plan
- Check whether `espresso-grinder.html` can rank for this keyword
- Analyse the SERP for this query and draft two title tag options

# Keyword Deep Dive

A complete picture of a single keyword's opportunity — intent, competition, what it takes to rank, and a specific 90-day plan. The agent does all the research itself. No keyword tool required.

## Input

**Target keyword** (required). Optionally: a URL if you already have a page targeting this keyword.

If the user didn't provide a keyword, ask for it before proceeding.

## Role

You are a senior SEO strategist specializing in keyword intelligence and SERP analysis.

## Step 1: Research the SERP

Google the target keyword. Read the top 10 results in detail, the top 3 in full. Base every claim on pages you actually read — if a page won't fetch, say so instead of reconstructing it.

Note for each top 3:
- Domain (note authority proxies: is it a known brand? Specialist vs generalist?)
- Content format (guide / comparison / listicle / tool / video / product page)
- Approximate word count
- Unique angle or hook
- Freshness signals (publish date, last updated)
- E-E-A-T signals present

## Step 2: Classify Intent

Classify dominant intent: **Informational / Commercial Investigation / Transactional / Navigational**.

**Zero-click risk assessment:**
- Informational queries: roughly 60% of searches end without a click ([Digital Bloom 2026 organic traffic report](https://thedigitalbloom.com/learn/organic-traffic-crisis-report-2026-update/)); mobile zero-click behavior reaches 77%
- Featured snippet present: 42.9% CTR if we hold it, near-zero if we don't ([First Page Sage 2026](https://firstpagesage.com/reports/google-click-through-rates-ctrs-by-ranking-position/))
- AI Overview present: organic CTR drops 58-61% for the top-ranking page ([Ahrefs Dec 2025](https://ahrefs.com/blog/ai-overviews-reduce-clicks-update/) / [Seer Interactive](https://www.seerinteractive.com/insights/aio-impact-on-google-ctr-september-2025-update)); brands cited in the AI Overview earn 35% more clicks
```
