## What it does

The skill lays out a deterministic five-step procedure for US dividend stocks. You lock the mandate first: cash income or dividend growth, position cap, allowed instruments, account type. Then it builds the investable universe split into core and satellite buckets, runs the yield filter with trap flags, checks payout safety per sector, values the name, and screens out one-off effects in earnings.

Inside are `build_sop_plan.py` and `build_entry_signals.py`, plus `references/default-thresholds.md`, `references/sector-step2-modules.md`, `references/valuation-and-one-off-checks.md` and `scripts/payout_safety.py`. Entry signals need FMP API access through the `FMP_API_KEY` variable. On `build_entry_signals.py`, `--yield-floor` is mandatory — leave it out and every row falls back to `STEP1-RECHECK`.

Input comes from the `value-dividend-screener` and `dividend-growth-pullback-screener` scripts, or from your own ticker list. Without `--events-json` the Step 4b scan marks every row `SKIPPED` and caps a triggered name at `HOLD-REVIEW`. Sector dispatch matters here: one uniform GAAP and FCF triad mis-judges banks and regulated utilities, so payout safety runs through the sector module instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill kanchi-dividend-sop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill kanchi-dividend-sop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill kanchi-dividend-sop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install tradermonty/claude-trading-skills kanchi-dividend-sop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill kanchi-dividend-sop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --path skills/kanchi-dividend-sop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill kanchi-dividend-sop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- screen US dividend stocks for yield without trap names
- check whether the payout is covered by earnings and free cash flow
- plan a pullback limit order at a target price
- write a one-page stock memo with invalidation conditions
- keep a monitoring cadence after the purchase

## Example prompts
- run kanchi-dividend-sop on JNJ, PG, KO and build the plan into reports/
- check payout safety through the sector module for this list
- build entry signals with yield floor 3.0 and the balanced profile

# Kanchi Dividend Sop

## Overview

Implement Kanchi's 5-step method as a deterministic workflow for US dividend investing.
Prioritize safety and repeatability over aggressive yield chasing.

## When to Use

Use this skill when the user needs:
- Kanchi-style dividend stock selection adapted for US equities.
- A repeatable screening and pullback-entry process instead of ad-hoc picks.
- One-page underwriting memos with explicit invalidation conditions.
- A handoff package for monitoring and tax/account-location workflows.

## Prerequisites

### API Key Setup

The entry signal script requires FMP API access:

```bash
export FMP_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
```

### Input Sources

Prepare one of the following inputs before running the workflow:
1. Output from `skills/value-dividend-screener/scripts/screen_dividend_stocks.py`.
2. Output from `skills/dividend-growth-pullback-screener/scripts/screen_dividend_growth_rsi.py`.
3. User-provided ticker list (broker export or manual list).

#### Expected JSON Input Format

When using `--input`, provide JSON in one of these formats:

```json
{
  "profile": "balanced",
  "candidates": [
    {"ticker": "JNJ", "bucket": "core"},
    {"ticker": "O", "bucket": "satellite"}
  ]
}
```

Or simplified:

```json
{
  "tickers": ["JNJ", "PG", "KO"]
}
```

The optional `value-dividend-screener` and
`dividend-growth-pullback-screener` handoffs use `stocks[].symbol`.
Both `build_sop_plan.py --input` and `build_entry_signals.py --input`
accept that shape directly, as well as the native `candidates[].ticker` and
`tickers[]` shapes above.

For deterministic artifact generation, provide tickers to:

```bash
python3 skills/kanchi-dividend-sop/scripts/build_sop_plan.py \
  --tickers "JNJ,PG,KO" \
  --output-dir reports/
```

For Step 5 entry timing artifacts. **`--yield-floor` is mandatory** — it is
the Step-1 yield gate; without it every row fail-safes to `STEP1-RECHECK`
