## What it does

This skill turns manuscripts, experiment data, and research notes into `.K2F` poster packages. It distills the source into a title, takeaway, methods, results, and references, then lays those elements out on a single canvas with columns, charts, tables, and metric cards. The workflow supports vector PDF, editable PPTX, and IDML output.

K2F keeps semantic content in `content/root.json` and visual settings in `styles/theme.json`. The workspace is packed and checked with `pack_verify.py --workspace <path> --render`; the check includes page count, underfill, clipping, and rendered-image review. The default plan is a 48"×36" landscape poster with three columns, while A0/A1 and portrait layouts are also covered.

The core `k2f` skill must be installed before this one with `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`. A poster that spills past one page fails the stated envelope, and body text below 18 pt conflicts with the viewing-distance rule, so overflow is handled by cutting content before reducing type size.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-research-poster -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/k2f-research-poster/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-research-poster -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-research-poster -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install suzheng/k2f k2f-research-poster
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-research-poster -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/suzheng/k2f --path skills/academic/k2f-research-poster
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-research-poster -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/suzheng/k2f/tree/HEAD/skills/academic/k2f-research-poster/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a manuscript into a one-page conference poster
- condense research findings into a visual summary
- arrange methods, results, and figures across columns
- export a poster as vector PDF or editable PPTX
- check page overflow, clipping, and empty canvas areas

## Example prompts
- Create a one-page scientific poster from this manuscript and export it as PDF.
- Turn these experiment results into an A0 poster, highlight the main finding, add the figures, and verify `pages=1`.
- Build a `.K2F` package from these findings, adjust `styles/theme.json`, and run `pack_verify.py --workspace <path> --render`.

# K2F Research Poster — AI-Native Aesthetic Design

## Purpose

Convert scientific manuscripts, experiment data, and academic notes into print-ready conference posters. Posters fail when treated as oversized papers; attendees scan from 1.5–2 meters away and spend under 90 seconds. This skill enforces scientific distillation, viewing-distance hierarchy, strict 1-page geometry, and high visual density while eliminating multi-page overflow and blank lower thirds.

## Built on K2F

This skill produces conference posters as `.K2F` packages. Follow the **k2f** skill for authoring: unpack or init a workspace, edit the semantic JSON tree (`content/root.json`), customize `styles/theme.json`, pack/verify, and export. K2F separates semantic structure from styling, compiling an immutable render lock that guarantees pixel-identical output across PDF, PPTX, DOCX, and IDML.

Before you build, install the core skill: `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`.

## When to Use

- Creating conference posters from paper drafts, preprints, or notes.
- Designing large-format scientific presentations (Arch E 48"×36", 36"×48", ISO A0/A1).
- Transforming multi-page manuscripts into a single-page visual synthesis.
- Exporting vector PDF, editable PPTX, or IDML.

## Inputs

- **Dimensions**: Landscape (48"×36" / ISO A0) or portrait (36"×48" / A0). Default: 48"×36" landscape (3 columns).
- **Findings**: Abstract, methods, key results, and conclusions.
- **Visuals**: Figures, plots, diagrams, and logos.
- **Metadata**: Title, authors, affiliations, paper/repo URL.

## Workflow

### 1. Understand
Distill content into three tiers:
- **3-Second**: Title, logos, takeaway banner.
- **30-Second**: Conclusion-driven section headers, key charts, metric callouts.
- **3-Minute**: Concise methods, data tables, references.

### 2. Plan
- **Word Budget**: 400–600 words (limit: 300–800). Posters are visual abstracts.
