## What it does

The skill walks the agent through two stages: a `content_and_design.md` blueprint, then a K2F build and export. The blueprint covers the document frame (title, effective date, version, owner, applicability), a short at-a-glance summary, definitions, numbered policy statements, separate procedures, a roles matrix, the exception path and a revision history.

Rules and procedures stay apart. Policy statements carry the obligations, procedures carry the steps for requesting, reporting or escalating. Language that comes from a jurisdiction or a mandate is kept verbatim; everything else is marked for HR or legal review. The skill does not invent PTO days, dollar limits, legal citations or approver names — where the input is silent, it leaves a placeholder to confirm.

It runs on top of the base `k2f` skill, so install that first: `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`. Without it, unpacking the workspace, editing the semantic tree and packing the package will not run. Contracts and counsel-grade legal text are out of scope here; that is what `k2f-contract` is for.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-policy-document -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/k2f-policy-document/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-policy-document -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-policy-document -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install suzheng/k2f k2f-policy-document
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-policy-document -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/suzheng/k2f --path skills/legal/k2f-policy-document
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-policy-document -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/suzheng/k2f/tree/HEAD/skills/legal/k2f-policy-document/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn an HR draft into a finished handbook section
- restructure legacy policy text into numbered rules
- split rules and procedures into separate blocks in one document
- add a short summary so employees find the rule on first scan
- prepare a policy for legal review with flags on unconfirmed parts

## Example prompts
- draft a remote work policy from this outline and export it to PDF
- rewrite the old expenses policy, rules first and procedures after
- build the leave section of the handbook and flag anything HR must confirm

description: Draft employee- and organization-facing policy documents—handbook sections, HR rules, conduct, benefits summaries, and compliance procedures—from user source material, outlines, or legacy policy text. Use when the user asks for a policy document, employee handbook section, HR policy, workplace rule write-up, or formal policy refresh. Create policy documents with AI-native design and the highest aesthetic standards, powered by the K2F format and engine. Purpose-built for AI agents, K2F lets them focus on semantic content and design intent while automatically handling layout, typography, and formatting complexity.

# K2F Policy Document — AI-Native Aesthetic Design

## Purpose

Teach agents to blueprint **policy documents** before layout: scannable rule architecture, plain-language layers for employees, and formal hierarchy—without inventing benefits, legal obligations, jurisdictions, or approval paths the user or HR/legal did not supply.

## Built on K2F

This skill produces policy documents as `.K2F` packages. Follow the **k2f** skill for authoring: unpack or init a workspace, edit the semantic tree, run pack/verify, then export. K2F keeps agents on *meaning* (sections, emphasis, tables)—not pixel coordinates—while the engine compiles layout, typography, and theme into consistent export-ready output.

Before you build, install the core skill: `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`.

## When to Use

- New or refreshed **single-policy** pages (PTO, remote work, expenses, conduct, travel, security, leave types).
- Handbook **sections** that must read consistently with house style but stay findable on first scan.
- Reformatting draft or pasted policy language into a publishable structure for HR or legal review.
- Not for chat-only policy Q&A, AgentRC scoring policies, or counsel-grade contracts (use **k2f-contract**).

## Workflow

### Step 1. Generate the content_and_design.md

One blueprint pairing **information architecture** with **design intent**. Label blocks the **k2f** skill can map to sections, callouts, and emphasis later.

**Sub-steps**

1. **Document frame** — Policy title, document ID if user provided, **effective date**, version, policy owner (team/role), and **applicability** (entities, locations, employment types). State whether this is **new**, **amendment**, or **supersedes** prior text; link prior version only from user inputs.
