## What it does

The skill walks the agent through a blueprint file, `content_and_design.md`, that holds both semantic content and design intent. It locks the paper type (empirical IMRaD, theory, review, case study, short conference paper), discipline, venue requirements and word or page limits. Then comes the contribution thesis, section selection with word budgets, an evidence map tagged `own-data`, `citation`, `method-detail`, `figure` or `table`, a visual plan, and design intent covering tone, heading hierarchy, density and palette.

Step two instantiates the manuscript from that blueprint through the K2F format and exports it to PDF, DOCX, PPTX or IDML. The agent edits the semantic tree while the engine handles layout and typography. That step needs the core skill first: `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`. Skip it and the generation step has nothing to run on.

Guardrails target the usual failure modes. Results report outcomes without interpretation, Discussion carries the reading, and invented references or statistics are off the table — placeholders stay until you supply the source. A quality checklist covers thesis alignment between Introduction and Discussion, clean section boundaries, and evidence behind every major claim.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-academic-paper -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/k2f-academic-paper/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/k2f-academic-paper/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-academic-paper -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/k2f-academic-paper/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-academic-paper -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/k2f-academic-paper/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install suzheng/k2f k2f-academic-paper
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/k2f-academic-paper/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-academic-paper -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/suzheng/k2f --path skills/academic/k2f-academic-paper
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/k2f-academic-paper/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f-academic-paper -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- shape scattered notes into an IMRaD structure
- check that every claim has a tagged source
- keep Results and Discussion from bleeding together
- fit sections inside a venue word limit
- swap a wall of text for a table or figure

## Example prompts
- Build an IMRaD conference paper draft from these notes and the results table, 8-page limit
- Restructure my preprint into sections and flag claims with no evidence
- Draft the visual plan and one-sentence takeaway captions for the Results section

description: Turn research questions, data, and literature into submission-ready academic manuscripts with venue-aligned structure, claim–evidence flow, and reader-scannable hierarchy. Use when the user asks for an academic paper, journal article, conference paper, thesis chapter, IMRaD manuscript, abstract, or manuscript outline from notes or a draft. Create academic papers with AI-native design and the highest aesthetic standards, powered by the K2F format and engine. Purpose-built for AI agents, K2F lets them focus on semantic content and design intent while automatically handling layout, typography, and formatting complexity.

# K2F Academic Paper — AI-Native Aesthetic Design

## Purpose

Teach agents to blueprint publishable manuscripts before layout: a sharp contribution claim, venue-appropriate structure, mapped evidence, and design intent that reads like a serious journal—not a generic essay or oversized blog post.

## Built on K2F

This skill produces manuscripts as `.K2F` packages. Follow the **k2f** skill for authoring: unpack or init a workspace, edit the semantic tree, run pack/verify, then export. K2F keeps agents on *meaning* (section roles, arguments, figures)—not pixel coordinates—while the engine compiles layout, typography, and theme into consistent output across PDF, DOCX, PPTX, and IDML.

Before you build, install the core skill: `npx skills add suzheng/k2f --skill k2f`.

## When to Use

- Drafting or restructuring IMRaD articles, conference papers, literature reviews, or thesis chapters from user materials.
- Turning notes, preprints, or reviewer feedback into a clearer outline before full prose.
- Defining how sections, figures, and tables should read and look before K2F compilation.

## Workflow

### Step 1. Generate the content_and_design.md

One blueprint for semantic content and aesthetic intent. Use labeled blocks the **k2f** skill can map to document structure later.

**Sub-steps**

1. **Venue & scope lock** — Paper type (empirical IMRaD, theory, review, case study, short conference), discipline, target venue or rubric, word/page limits, required back matter (ethics, data availability, contributions). Note citation style as metadata only. Cut anything outside limits before drafting.
