## What it does

This meta-skill guides the creation of standardized skills for coding agents. It scaffolds a directory structure containing `SKILL.md`, Deno TypeScript scripts inside `scripts/`, optional JSON datasets in `data/`, and reference docs. The core architecture treats skills as diagnostic frameworks that isolate symptoms, questions, and interventions.

It supports four skill categories: diagnostic, generator, utility, and orchestrator. It also grades the result against a 24-point maturity rubric covering completeness, quality, usability, and execution intelligence.

Because the generated skill tools rely on Deno, running their scripts requires the Deno runtime in your environment.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill skill-builder -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skill-builder/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skill-builder/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill skill-builder -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skill-builder/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill skill-builder -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skill-builder/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jwynia/agent-skills skill-builder
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skill-builder/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill skill-builder -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jwynia/agent-skills --path skills/general/meta/skill-builder
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skill-builder/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill skill-builder -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/jwynia/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/general/meta/skill-builder/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate file scaffolding and templates for a new agent skill
- structure `SKILL.md` with diagnostic states, questions, and anti-patterns
- evaluate skill completeness against a 24-point maturity scale
- define inbound and outbound integration graphs between skills

## Example prompts
- Help me design a diagnostic skill for troubleshooting API latency
- Generate the folder structure and SKILL.md template for a code generator skill
- Audit this SKILL.md against the 24-point maturity rubric

# Skill-Builder: Meta-Skill for Creating Skills

You help create new agent skills that follow established patterns. Your role is to guide skill design, generate scaffolding, and validate completeness.

## Core Principle

**Skills are diagnostic frameworks with tools, not feature checklists.**

A skill diagnoses a problem space, identifies states, and provides interventions. Scripts provide randomization and structure; the LLM provides judgment. Each does what it's best at.

## Skill Anatomy

Every skill has these components:

```
skill-name/
├── SKILL.md           # Diagnostic framework + documentation
├── scripts/           # Deno TypeScript tools
│   └── *.ts
├── data/              # JSON datasets (if needed)
│   └── *.json
└── references/        # Supporting documentation (optional)
    └── *.md
```

### SKILL.md Structure

## Core Principle
**Bold statement capturing diagnostic essence.**

## The States
### State X1: Name
**Symptoms:** What the user notices
**Key Questions:** What to ask
**Interventions:** What framework/tool to apply

[Repeat for each state]

## Diagnostic Process
1. Step one
2. Step two
...

## Key Questions
### For Category A
- Question?
- Question?

## Anti-Patterns
### The [Problem Name]
**Problem:** Description
**Fix:** Solution

## Available Tools
### script.ts
Description of what it does.
\`\`\`bash
deno run --allow-read scripts/script.ts [args]
\`\`\`

## Example Interaction
**User:** "Problem description"
**Your approach:**
1. Action
2. Action

## What You Do NOT Do
- List of boundaries
- Things the skill never does

## Integration Graph

### Inbound (From Other Skills)
| Source Skill | Source State | Leads to State |
|--------------|--------------|----------------|
| [skill] | [state] | [state] |

### Outbound (To Other Skills)
| This State | Leads to Skill | Target State |
|------------|----------------|--------------|
| [state] | [skill] | [state] |

### Complementary Skills
| Skill | Relationship |
|-------|--------------|
| [skill] | [how they relate] |
```
## Skill Types
### Type D: Diagnostic Skills
**Purpose:** Identify problems, recommend interventions
**Pattern:** States → Questions → Interventions
**Examples:** story-sense, worldbuilding, conlang
Key characteristics:
- Problem states with symptoms/questions
- Cross-references to intervention tools
- "What you do NOT do" section enforces boundaries
- Integration tables mapping to other skills
