## What it does

Claude Code interfaces with Jira through the Rube MCP gateway at `https://rube.app/mcp`, which wraps Composio tools. The assistant triggers `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` first to load active API schemas. This workflow enables querying tasks with JQL and creating work items directly.

Teams can inspect boards and schedule sprints in Jira Software. Issue comments accept Atlassian Document Format for structured text. Assigning work relies on account identifiers. Usernames and email addresses will fail.

All Jira operations fail without active OAuth. Adding the Rube MCP server itself requires no tokens. Jira access is authorized via a link generated by `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS`. Custom fields require exact IDs like `customfield_10001` instead of UI names.

## Requirements
- Works with: Jira

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill workflow-automation/jira-automation
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill jira-automation -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/jira-automation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/jira-automation/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/jira-automation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/jira-automation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates jira-automation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/jira-automation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/workflow-automation/jira-automation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/jira-automation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/workflow-automation/jira-automation

## When to use it
- filter issues using JQL syntax
- create tasks and assign teammates by account ID
- organize backlogs and active sprints on agile boards
- post formatted issue comments using ADF

## Example prompts
- Search for all unresolved bugs in project PROJ using JQL
- Create a new Task in project PROJ and assign it to the frontend lead
- Move ticket PROJ-42 into the active sprint
