# tanstack-start

Scaffolds a full-stack TanStack Start app on Cloudflare Workers from scratch: SSR, file-based routing, D1, auth. Useful when you want a working skeleton without cloning a template.

## What it does

The skill walks Claude through building the project file by file. No template repo, no scaffold command — every config and source file gets generated for the project at hand. It ships a file tree, dependency lists and the contents of `vite.config.ts`, `wrangler.jsonc`, `tsconfig.json`, `.dev.vars` and `.gitignore`. The stack is TanStack Start v1 with SSR and server functions via Nitro, React 19, Tailwind v4 with shadcn/ui, D1 with Drizzle, and better-auth for Google OAuth plus email and password.

The workflow runs in three stages: gather project details, initialise the directory and configs, then define the database schema. Plugin order in `vite.config.ts` matters — Cloudflare has to come first, otherwise the Workers build breaks. In `wrangler.jsonc` the `main` field points at `@tanstack/react-start/server-entry`, and the compatibility flag is `nodejs_compat`, not `node_compat`. The `BETTER_AUTH_SECRET` value comes from `openssl rand -hex 32`; the database is created with `npx wrangler d1 create PROJECT_NAME-db` and its `database_id` is copied into the config by hand.

D1 imposes its own rules on the schema: timestamps are integers in Unix epoch rather than Date objects, primary keys are text (nanoid or cuid2) instead of autoincrement, and bound parameters per query stay under 100. Foreign keys are always on. better-auth expects the `users`, `sessions`, `accounts` and `verifications` tables.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill tanstack-start -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tanstack-start/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill tanstack-start -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill tanstack-start -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jezweb/claude-skills tanstack-start
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill tanstack-start -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jezweb/claude-skills --path archive/plugins/cloudflare/skills/tanstack-start
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill tanstack-start -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/jezweb/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/archive/plugins/cloudflare/skills/tanstack-start/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- stand up an SSR app on Cloudflare Workers without a starter template
- wire TanStack Start to D1 and Drizzle
- add Google OAuth and email/password sign-in
- build file-based routing with guarded routes
- write a D1-compatible database schema

## Example prompts
- Scaffold a full-stack TanStack Start app on Cloudflare Workers with SSR and a dashboard
- Set up file-based routing, server functions and Google sign-in in a new project
- Configure D1 with Drizzle and better-auth for a TanStack Start app

# TanStack Start on Cloudflare

Build a complete full-stack app from nothing. Claude generates every file — no template clone, no scaffold command.

Stack: TanStack Start v1 (SSR, file-based routing, server functions via Nitro) on Cloudflare Workers; React 19 + Tailwind v4 + shadcn/ui; D1 + Drizzle; better-auth (Google OAuth + email/password).
