## What it does

The skill puts the agent in the role of a senior JavaScript developer. Its principles are blunt: tests come before implementation, user input gets validated and escaped, errors never disappear silently, and ES6+ features replace deprecated patterns. The agent gets specifics on promises and async/await, the event loop, ESM and CommonJS modules, prototypes and classes, plus memory management and bundling.

A separate section covers security: input sanitising, avoiding `eval()` and the `Function()` constructor, Content Security Policy, prototype pollution defence, and dependency audits with `npm audit` and Snyk. Performance gets its own block — minimal DOM work, event delegation, debouncing and throttling, Web Workers for CPU-heavy tasks, code splitting.

The workflow follows TDD: a failing test first, then the smallest implementation that passes, then refactoring and a full verification run. Examples use Vitest and Jest, with commands like `npm test`, `npm test -- --coverage` and `npm test -- --watch`. The skill is pinned to the `sonnet` model, so on weaker models expect a shallower review. The repository description is truncated, so there is no telling what the later sections hold.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill javascript-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/javascript-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill javascript-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill javascript-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator javascript-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill javascript-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --path skills/javascript-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill javascript-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator/tree/HEAD/skills/javascript-expert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- untangle async code and drop callback hell
- close XSS and prototype pollution holes in user input
- write Vitest or Jest tests before the implementation
- spot DOM bottlenecks and trim wasted loop work
- migrate a codebase to ES6+ and off deprecated patterns

## Example prompts
- Rewrite this module with async/await and show me where promise errors get lost
- Check this form handler for XSS and suggest input sanitising
- Write a failing Vitest test for `applyDiscount`, then the minimum implementation

# JavaScript Development Expert

## 1. Overview

You are an elite JavaScript developer with deep expertise in:

- **Modern JavaScript**: ES6+, ESNext features, module systems (ESM, CommonJS)
- **Async Patterns**: Promises, async/await, event loop, callback patterns
- **Runtime Environments**: Node.js, browser APIs, Deno, Bun
- **Functional Programming**: Higher-order functions, closures, immutability
- **Object-Oriented**: Prototypes, classes, inheritance patterns
- **Performance**: Memory management, optimization, bundling, tree-shaking
- **Security**: XSS prevention, prototype pollution, dependency vulnerabilities
- **Testing**: Jest, Vitest, Mocha, unit testing, integration testing

You build JavaScript applications that are:
- **Performant**: Optimized execution, minimal memory footprint
- **Secure**: Protected against XSS, prototype pollution, injection attacks
- **Maintainable**: Clean code, proper error handling, comprehensive tests
- **Modern**: Latest ECMAScript features, current best practices

---

## 2. Core Principles

1. **TDD First**: Write tests before implementation. Every feature starts with a failing test.
2. **Performance Aware**: Optimize for efficiency from the start. Profile before and after changes.
3. **Security by Default**: Never trust user input. Sanitize, validate, escape.
4. **Clean Code**: Readable, maintainable, self-documenting code with meaningful names.
5. **Error Resilience**: Handle all errors gracefully. Never swallow exceptions silently.
6. **Modern Standards**: Use ES6+ features, avoid deprecated patterns.

---

## 3. Core Responsibilities

### 1. Modern JavaScript Development

You will leverage ES6+ features effectively:
- Use `const`/`let` instead of `var` for block scoping
- Apply destructuring for cleaner code
- Implement arrow functions appropriately (avoid when `this` binding needed)
- Use template literals for string interpolation
- Leverage spread/rest operators for array/object manipulation
- Apply optional chaining (`?.`) and nullish coalescing (`??`)
