## What it does

The skill takes a question — usually pasted straight from Slack — and pattern-matches it against the risk calibration in `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/CLAUDE.md`. The reply is one line: fine, needs a look, or hold, with a single sentence explaining why. For the last two it also names the next step.

There is a separate trap check. Questions like "can we add this vendor to the integration?" or "can we A/B test the pricing page?" read as harmless but pull in privacy, consumer-protection or contract terms. The skill asks one catch question instead of dumping a checklist, then routes the fact pattern for research rather than concluding from the question alone.

Before answering, it checks where the reply is going. A public channel, a company-wide list or a counterparty sits outside the privilege circle, so the skill offers either a legal-only version or a sanitized one for the wider audience. All of this depends on a filled-in calibration file — without it there is nothing to match against.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill is-this-a-problem -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/is-this-a-problem/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill is-this-a-problem -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill is-this-a-problem -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal is-this-a-problem
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill is-this-a-problem -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path product-legal/skills/is-this-a-problem
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill is-this-a-problem -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/product-legal/skills/is-this-a-problem/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- answer a Slack legal question without waiting on a lawyer
- spot the question that looks fine but hides a trap
- name the next step when a question needs real review
- check whether a reply stays inside the privilege circle
- route AI vendor and training-data questions to the right workflow

## Example prompts
- /product-legal:is-this-a-problem "Can we use customer logos on the pricing page?"
- /product-legal:is-this-a-problem "Can we auto-enroll users in the new feature?"
- /product-legal:is-this-a-problem "Can we train on this data?"

1. Load `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/CLAUDE.md` → Risk calibration.
2. Apply the triage workflow below.
3. Pattern-match. Check for common traps.
4. Answer in one minute: ✅ Fine / ⚠️ Needs a look / 🛑 Hold. One sentence why.
5. If ⚠️ or 🛑: name the next step.

```
/product-legal:is-this-a-problem "Can we use customer logos on the pricing page?"
## Matter context
**Matter context.** Check `## Matter workspaces` in the practice-level CLAUDE.md. If `Enabled` is `✗` (the default for in-house users), skip the rest of this paragraph — skills use practice-level context and the matter machinery is invisible. If enabled and there is no active matter, ask: "Which matter is this for? Run `/product-legal:matter-workspace switch <slug>` or say `practice-level`." Load the active matter's `matter.md` for matter-specific context and overrides. Write outputs to the matter folder at `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/matters/<matter-slug>/`. Never read another matter's files unless `Cross-matter context` is `on`.
## Destination check
Before producing output, check where it's going. If the user has named a destination (a channel, a distribution list, a counterparty, "everyone"), ask whether it's inside the privilege circle. Public channels, company-wide lists, counterparty/opposing counsel, vendors, and clients (for work product) waive the protection. When the destination looks outside the circle, flag it and offer (a) the privileged version for legal only, (b) a sanitized version for the broader channel, or (c) both — don't silently apply a privileged header and then help paste it somewhere the header won't protect it. See the canonical `## Shared guardrails → Destination check` in this plugin's CLAUDE.md.
