## What it does

The skill directs your coding agent to hook into `https://ionic-framework-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp`. It inspects your project directory to auto-detect Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code before prompting you. No registration, account, or API key is needed.

Once configured, the agent reads component references, CSS shadow parts, events, and slots directly from the server. The skill instructs the agent to check `package.json` to select Ionic v8 or v9 docs and filter usage examples for Angular, React, Vue, or vanilla JavaScript.

Clients limited to stdio command execution require Node.js 22 or later to run the local proxy. The remote API caps traffic at 100 requests per minute per IP. The skill explicitly excludes native Capacitor plugins and iOS or Android platform setups.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill ionic-framework-mcp -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill ionic-framework-mcp -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill ionic-framework-mcp -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills ionic-framework-mcp
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill ionic-framework-mcp -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/ionic-framework-mcp
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill ionic-framework-mcp -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ionic-framework-mcp/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- link the hosted Ionic Framework MCP server to your coding client
- fetch accurate Ionic component APIs, events, and shadow DOM slots
- pull framework-specific usage examples for React, Angular, or Vue
- verify documentation changes between Ionic v8 and v9 releases

## Example prompts
- Set up the Ionic Framework MCP server in this workspace
- Find the official React usage example for IonModal in Ionic v9
- Check the supported CSS custom properties for ion-button using MCP

# Ionic Framework MCP Server

Connect an MCP client to the hosted Ionic Framework MCP server for the current Ionic Framework documentation, the component API reference, the official usage examples per framework, and the Ionic blog.

The server is hosted by Capawesome — there is nothing to install, no account, and no token:

```
https://ionic-framework-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp
```

This is an unofficial server. It is maintained by Capawesome and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ionic or OutSystems. It serves the official Ionic Framework documentation, © the Ionic team and licensed under [Apache-2.0](https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0).

## Prerequisites

1. An MCP client: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, or any other client that implements the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io).
2. Network access to `https://ionic-framework-mcp.capawesome.io`.
3. For clients that only start local commands: Node.js 22 or later.

## Agent Behavior

- **Guide step-by-step.** Walk the user through the process one step at a time. Never present multiple unrelated questions at once.
- **Auto-detect before asking.** Detect the MCP client from the project before asking the user which one they use.
- **Never ask for credentials.** The server needs no account and no token. Never prompt for one and never write an `Authorization` header into the configuration.
- **Pass the matching documentation version and framework.** Read the Ionic package from `package.json` and pass the matching `version` on every call, and the project's `framework` when reading usage examples. See [Documentation Versions](#documentation-versions).

## Procedures
