## What it does

The skill maps interview transcripts into structured records. Its pipeline uses 15 Python scripts. First, `number_lines.py` numbers lines in `.txt`, `.docx`, `.srt`, or `.vtt` files and flags prompt injection attempts in dialogue. Then, `verify_quotes.py` confirms that cited phrases exist in the source text. If an exact quote is missing, it outputs `NO QUOTE` to prevent paraphrasing.

For reliability, `consensus.py` compares independent model runs. It flags cells where runs disagree. Perfect unanimity across runs gets flagged too, because identical outputs often reflect shared bias. To synthesize patterns across interviews, `score_insights.py` requires verified quotes from multiple independent interviews before promoting an observation to an insight.

Only the `candidate` lens has undergone human evaluation. The other fifteen lenses remain unverified on real data. Strip personal data before running `number_lines.py`, because altering names later breaks quote matching.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add alirezarezvani/claude-skills
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install research-ops-skills@claude-code-skills
```
This installs the whole research-ops-skills plugin with all its skills

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alirezarezvani/claude-skills --skill interview-mapper -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/interview-mapper/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alirezarezvani/claude-skills interview-mapper
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alirezarezvani/claude-skills --path research-ops/skills/interview-mapper
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/alirezarezvani/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/research-ops/skills/interview-mapper/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map interview transcripts to one of 16 coding lenses
- verify claims against verbatim transcript quotes using Python scripts
- catch disagreements and false consensus between independent model runs
- synthesize triangulated insights across multiple customer interviews

## Example prompts
- Map `interview_01.txt` using the `custdev` lens and ground claims in line numbers
- Verify extracted quotes in `claims.json` against `transcript_nl.txt`
- Run `consensus.py` on `run1.json` and `run2.json` to inspect disagreements

name: interview-mapper
description: "Maps a single interview transcript into a verbatim-grounded, lens-coded structure and checks whether analytic conclusions hold across independent re-runs. Use when the user wants to code, map, interpret, or make sense of an interview transcript, depth interview, custdev/JTBD/expert/usability/exit/win-loss/focus-group session, or wants cross-interview synthesis (insight cards, patterns) built up from coded transcripts — even if they don't name a method. Every conclusion must carry a verbatim quote verified against the source text; unstable conclusions are flagged for a human, never resolved by a single silent pass. Not for generating new interviews, not for plain audio transcription, and not for research-method or sample-size planning above the transcript (see product-research)."

# Interview Mapper

Turns one interview transcript into a structured mapping where every conclusion is grounded in a
**verbatim quote** (checked by a script, not by eye), analysis is checked across **multiple runs**
(disagreement is flagged, never silently resolved), and cross-interview patterns require
**triangulation across independent sources** before being called an insight.

## Distinct from product-research

`research-ops/skills/product-research` operates one level up: it picks the research *method*
(generative vs evaluative), sizes the sample, and synthesizes already-coded observations into an
insight repository — it never touches a transcript. This skill is the transcript-level layer:
it reads the raw interview, produces the per-lens coding with quote-level grounding, and hands
verified, triangulated evidence to `product-research`'s synthesis step (or works standalone). See
`../product-research/SKILL.md`.

## Workflow

1. **Route the intake.** `python3 scripts/route.py --goal <goal> --respondent <who>` picks the lens
   (which of 16 templates) and output, and returns the applicable pipeline steps.
2. **Number and verify.** `python3 scripts/number_lines.py transcript.(txt|docx|srt|vtt)` numbers
   lines for traceability (from subtitles it also writes timecodes and speakers to a sidecar, and
   flags lines that read as instructions to the model — a transcript is untrusted input);
   `python3 scripts/verify_quotes.py --transcript t_nl.txt --claims claims.json`
   checks every quote is actually in the source (verbatim ≠ support — see `references/reliability.md`).
3. **Check reliability, then synthesize.** `python3 scripts/consensus.py run1.json run2.json run3.json`
   flags cells where independent runs disagree — and flags the opposite failure too: total agreement
   (`council_degenerate`) usually means the runs were not independent, and agreement across weakly
   grounded runs (`unanimous_but_ungrounded`) may be identical bias rather than correctness.
