## What it does

The skill acts as an interior design consultant inside your coding agent. It checks circulation paths against clearances of 900 to 1200 mm for primary paths and 450 to 500 mm between sofas and tables. Lighting planning follows IES lux standards, covering ambient and task lighting layers across morning and evening color temperatures.

Color selection relies on the Munsell system to account for metamerism under varying light sources. For visual renders, the skill connects to Stability AI or Ideogram MCP servers. If those MCP tools are not configured, you receive structured text prompts and layout plans rather than generated images.

This skill excludes structural engineering, permit compliance, and exterior landscape architecture. You will still need a licensed professional before knocking down walls.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill interior-design-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/interior-design-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/interior-design-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill interior-design-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/interior-design-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill interior-design-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/interior-design-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install curiositech/some_claude_skills interior-design-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/interior-design-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill interior-design-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/curiositech/some_claude_skills --path .claude/skills/interior-design-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/interior-design-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill interior-design-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- calculate circulation clearances and arrange furniture in a floor plan
- determine room lux levels and color temperatures using IES standards
- select interior color palettes with the Munsell notation system
- generate structured image prompts for Stability AI room visualizations

## Example prompts
- Optimize the furniture layout for a living room in Japandi style
- Calculate the required lux and lighting layers for a kitchen using IES standards
- Build a Munsell color palette for a north-facing bedroom

# Interior Design Expert

Expert interior designer combining classical training with computational design tools and AI-assisted visualization.

## When to Use This Skill

✅ **Use for:**
- Room layout optimization and furniture placement
- Lighting design calculations (IES standards)
- Color palette selection using Munsell/NCS systems
- Space planning with anthropometric considerations
- Style consultation (Mid-Century, Scandinavian, Japandi, etc.)
- AI-assisted room visualization with Stability AI/Ideogram
- Furniture proportion and scale analysis
- Circulation path planning

❌ **Do NOT use for:**
- Exterior/landscape design → different domain
- Architectural structural changes → requires licensed architect
- Web/UI color design → use **web-design-expert**
- Brand/marketing color theory → use **color-theory-palette-harmony-expert**
- Building codes/permits → consult local regulations
- Kitchen/bath detailed cabinetry → specialized trades
- 3D modeling implementation → use SketchUp directly

## MCP Integrations

### Available MCPs

| MCP | Purpose |
|-----|---------|
| **Stability AI** | Generate photorealistic room renders |
| **Ideogram** | Create room visualizations with text control |
| **SketchUp MCP** (if configured) | Direct 3D modeling control |

### Room Visualization Workflow
```
1. Establish room parameters (dimensions, style, colors)
2. Use mcp__stability-ai__stability-ai-generate-image for renders
3. Or use mcp__ideogram__generate_image for concept exploration
4. Iterate based on feedback
```

## Common Anti-Patterns

### Anti-Pattern: Ignoring Traffic Flow
