## What it does

The skill walks you through picking an app model and an OAuth flow. First it helps decide between a Connected App for a simple single-org integration and an External Client App when packaging, secret rotation or tighter operational controls matter. Then comes the flow: Authorization Code for a backend web app, Authorization Code with PKCE for SPAs and mobile, JWT Bearer for server-to-server, Device Flow for CLI auth, Client Credentials for service-account style apps.

Generation starts from templates in `assets/` — `connected-app-jwt.xml`, `external-client-app.xml` and others — instead of a blank file. The skill also reads `references/security-checklist.md` with its 120-point checklist and `references/testing-validation-guide.md` before handoff. Consumer secrets stay out of source control, `Full` scope is not the default, and public clients get PKCE.

You need `curl`, `jq`, `openssl`, `python3` and the `sf` CLI at the versions listed in the skill metadata, plus API version 57.0 or higher. For ECA security settings the skill advises retrieving them from the org first with `sf project retrieve start --metadata ExtlClntAppOauthSecuritySettings:<AppName> --target-org <alias>` and treating that file as the schema source of truth. If new Connected App creation is disabled in your org, External Client Apps are the way forward for new integrations.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- choose between a Connected App and an External Client App
- set up JWT bearer auth for server-to-server calls
- add PKCE to an OAuth flow for a mobile or SPA client
- debug an `INVALID_CROSS_REFERENCE_KEY` error on ECA deploy
- review an OAuth config against a security checklist before shipping

## Example prompts
- Set up OAuth for a new External Client App with JWT bearer and least-privilege scopes
- Review my `.connectedApp-meta.xml` against the security checklist and list what to fix
- Generate an `.eca-meta.xml` for a service integration, keep secrets out of the repo

# integration-connectivity-connected-app-configure: Salesforce Connected Apps & External Client Apps

Use this skill when the user needs **OAuth app configuration** in Salesforce: Connected Apps, External Client Apps (ECAs), JWT bearer setup, PKCE decisions, scope design, or migration from older Connected App patterns to newer ECA patterns.

## Scope

**In scope:**
- `.connectedApp-meta.xml` or `.eca-meta.xml` files
- OAuth flow selection and callback / scope setup
