## What it does

The skill activates when a task touches underwriting, claims, actuarial work, risk or insurtech. It covers insurance systems — policy administration, claims management, underwriting workstations, actuarial modeling, reinsurance — plus insurance types from P&C and life to auto and cyber, and the standards around them: ACORD, SOX, NAIC, GDPR, AML.

The hands-on part is a Python claims management example: a `Claim` class with statuses from `reported` to `closed`, and methods to file, investigate, approve or deny a claim. Filing runs a fraud screen first — a score above 0.8 flips the status to `investigating` and routes the case to the Special Investigation Unit. Reserves come from per-type multipliers, and the deductible is subtracted from the approved amount before payment.

The skill asks for Read, Write and Edit, so the agent can open and change files in your project. The sample code uses `Decimal` for money and `datetime` for dates; if your own models keep amounts as floats, that is worth checking before you reuse the reserve and payout math.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill insurance-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/insurance-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/insurance-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill insurance-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/insurance-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill insurance-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/insurance-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install personamanagmentlayer/pcl insurance-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/insurance-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill insurance-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/personamanagmentlayer/pcl --path stdlib/domains/insurance-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/insurance-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill insurance-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/personamanagmentlayer/pcl/tree/HEAD/stdlib/domains/insurance-expert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- model a claim record with reserve, deductible and payout fields
- lay out claim statuses from first notice to closure
- add a fraud check before assigning an adjuster
- group insurance lines and regulatory requirements into categories
- compute a reserve from loss type and multiplier

## Example prompts
- help me design a ClaimsManagementSystem for auto insurance
- which statuses should a claim move through before payout?
- explain how to calculate a reserve from the loss type
