## What it does

\`install-wizard` moves from environment checks to a setup report. It identifies missing items, presents proposals, and asks you to approve each one before execution. File edits and `zshrc` changes are previewed for review.

In normal mode, the skill also sets up weekly audit reminders: it adds a function to `~/.zshrc`, creates sentinel files, and checks the latest `weekly_audit` at session start. After seven days, it proposes `/harvest-loop`; it does not use a persistent cron job.

With `--dry-run`, it prints the diagnosis report and exits without making changes. In Claude Code, register the `fh-meta` plugin first; the skill command will not work until then.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill install-wizard -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/install-wizard/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill install-wizard -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill install-wizard -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install chrono-meta/forge-harness install-wizard
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill install-wizard -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness --path plugins/fh-meta/skills/install-wizard
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill install-wizard -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness/tree/HEAD/plugins/fh-meta/skills/install-wizard/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check whether an environment is ready for forge-harness
- find missing project setup items
- approve proposed changes one at a time
- set up weekly audit reminders
- get a diagnosis report without editing files

## Example prompts
- Check this project's environment and propose setup changes with `/install-wizard`.
- Run `/install-wizard --dry-run` and return the diagnosis report only.
- Set up the weekly audit reminder with `/install-wizard`.

# install-wizard — Onboarding Setup Wizard

> ⚠️ **Prerequisite — Read first if this is your first install**
>
> This skill is available **after the fh-meta plugin is registered in Claude Code**.
> If you type `/install-wizard` and CC doesn't respond, the plugin hasn't been registered yet.
>
> **When running Claude Code from the FH directory**: the AI detects the MISS automatically
> and installs the plugin via Bash — no manual input needed. Just say "install the plugin."
>
> **Manual fallback (if needed):**
> ```bash
> claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness.git
> claude plugin install -s user fh-meta@forge-harness
> ```
> After install, if `install-wizard` appears in `/skills` list in CC chat, you're ready.
> See `README.md > Advanced Settings > Plugin Install` for detailed guide.

Run immediately after cloning forge-harness (FH), or when setting up a new project for the first time.
Sets up the periodic-audit notification structure: a permanent zshrc hook (`fh_audit_check.zsh`, runs on terminal start) plus FH's session-start mtime detection. Both surface a weekly-audit reminder when 7+ days have elapsed since the last `weekly_audit` — no persistent cron is used (a session-scoped scheduler cannot survive to fire on a later day).

## Key Terms

| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| **sentinel** | An empty file that records whether a specific event (audit complete, install complete, etc.) has occurred. Created in `~/.cc_sentinels/`. |
| **zshrc hook** | Shell function added to `~/.zshrc`. Automatically runs on terminal start and applies permanently. |
| **session-start detection** | FH's durable weekly-audit cadence — at session start the mtime of the latest `weekly_audit_*` is checked and `/harvest-loop` is proposed if 7+ days elapsed (see CLAUDE.md Cadence Rules). No persistent scheduler required. |

## Execution Modes

| Mode | Trigger | Action |
|---|---|---|
| **Normal mode** (default) | `/install-wizard` | Gap diagnosis → per-item approval → execution → zshrc/sentinel install (interactive) |
| **Analysis mode** | `/install-wizard --dry-run` | Gap diagnosis + report output only. No approval gate or execution. bg dispatch compatible |
