## What it does

This skill guides developers through implementing AI agent evaluation workflows using Inngest durable steps. It details direct outcome scoring via `step.score()` during execution, as well as delayed evaluation pipelines using `createScorer()` and fire-and-forget `defer()` calls when human feedback or LLM judges arrive later.

It also covers session attribution using `meta.sessions` for high-cardinality conversation IDs, alongside comparisons of models and prompts via `group.experiment()`. Direct and deferred scoring rely on beta APIs, requiring TypeScript SDK v4 and `scoreMiddleware()` from `inngest/experimental`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add inngest/inngest-skills --skill inngest-agent-evals -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/inngest-agent-evals/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/inngest-agent-evals/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add inngest/inngest-skills --skill inngest-agent-evals -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/inngest-agent-evals/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add inngest/inngest-skills --skill inngest-agent-evals -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/inngest-agent-evals/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install inngest/inngest-skills inngest-agent-evals
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/inngest-agent-evals/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add inngest/inngest-skills --skill inngest-agent-evals -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/inngest/inngest-skills --path skills/inngest-agent-evals
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/inngest-agent-evals/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add inngest/inngest-skills --skill inngest-agent-evals -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- add direct outcome scoring to Inngest workflows using `step.score()`
- implement asynchronous user feedback scoring with `createScorer()` and `defer()`
- group multi-step agent runs under shared session identifiers
- compare model and prompt variations using `group.experiment()`

## Example prompts
- Help me add answer quality scoring to an Inngest function using `step.score()`
- Configure a deferred scorer for user feedback on support tickets using `createScorer`
- How do I set up prompt A/B testing with `group.experiment()` in Inngest SDK v4?

# Inngest Agent Evals

Use this skill when the user wants to evaluate AI agents or AI workflows in
production, add scoring, compare prompts/models/tools, group related runs, or
debug why an agent outcome was good or bad.

Agent Evals is not a separate package. It is the production evaluation workflow
built from Inngest functions, durable steps, scores, deferred scorers, sessions,
traces, experiments, and Insights.

## Decision Flow

Start from the outcome, not the mechanism:

1. Identify the product or quality signal: helpful click, ticket resolution,
   conversion, guardrail pass, retrieval quality, model confidence, latency,
   cost, human review, or LLM-as-judge result.
2. Decide when the signal appears:
   - During the run: use direct scoring with `step.score()` or
     `inngest.score()`.
   - After the run: use deferred scoring with `createScorer()` and `defer()`,
     or explicit `inngest.score({ runId })`.
3. Decide how humans will inspect related work:
   - Use `meta.sessions` for repeated high-cardinality identifiers such as
     `conversation_id`, `ticket_id`, `agent_run_id`, or `import_id`.
   - Use Insights for ad hoc historical analysis, low-cardinality filters, SQL
     aggregates, and broad investigation.
4. Decide whether to compare variants:
   - Use `group.experiment()` for prompt, model, provider, tool, workflow, or
     rollout comparisons.
