# infographic-and-data-viz

A skill that turns real data into a chart or infographic where the main point lands in three seconds. Useful when the numbers are fine but the presentation is not.

## What it does

The skill works through the CHART framework: pick the chart type that fits the message, write a headline that states the conclusion instead of labelling the axes, anchor to honest scales, strip decoration down to the signal, and tag the source while keeping the result accessible. It reads `brand-profile` and `design-and-templates` first, and pulls data from `data-and-original-research` or `analytics-and-reporting`. The agent writes the visualization spec and can draft a chart.

A design or chart tool renders the final graphic, a human approves it, and WoopSocial publishes the image. The skill does not generate media. Reference material ships with it: the framework in depth, a chart picker, an honest-scale checklist, infographic anatomy, and two worked examples.

The hard line is that the data has to be real. No distorted scales, no cherry-picking, no fabricated points. Bars start at zero, 3D and dual axes are out, and source plus date get cited. If the real numbers are undramatic, the honest chart is the deliverable. Accessibility is part of the job too: colour-blind-safe palettes, redundant encoding, WCAG contrast, and alt text that carries the takeaway.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill infographic-and-data-viz -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill infographic-and-data-viz -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill infographic-and-data-viz -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills infographic-and-data-viz
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill infographic-and-data-viz -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/infographic-and-data-viz
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill infographic-and-data-viz -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/infographic-and-data-viz/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a dry stat into a chart people grasp at a glance
- fix a truncated y-axis that quietly misleads readers
- pick a chart type that matches the data relationship
- cite source and date so the visual can be quoted
- make an infographic legible on a phone and usable with colour vision deficiency

## Example prompts
- turn these numbers into an infographic, headline should be the takeaway
- check my chart — is the scale honest and what else is off
- build a chart spec with the CHART framework for this report

  The craft of turning real data into honest, scannable, shareable infographics and charts. Use when
  someone wants to visualize data, make an infographic, build a chart/graph, turn a finding or stat
  into a visual, or fix a chart that's confusing or misleading. A great data viz makes one insight land
  in 3 seconds. Uses the CHART framework (chart choice, headline takeaway, honest scale, reduce to
  signal, tag source + accessibility). Reads brand-profile + design-and-templates first and pulls real
  data from data-and-original-research / analytics-and-reporting. The agent designs the spec; a
  design/chart tool renders it; the human approves; WoopSocial publishes the image (it does not
  generate media). NEVER distorts scales or fabricates a data point/source; cites source + date;
  accessibility required. Distinct from design-and-templates (brand design), quote-cards-and-text-graphics
  (a lone quote/number), data-and-original-research (originates the data), and analytics-and-reporting.

# infographic-and-data-viz

The **honest data-viz craft** — choose the right chart, headline the takeaway, anchor to honest scales, reduce to
the signal, and tag the source + make it accessible. The agent specs it, a **design/chart tool renders** it, the
**human** approves, and **WoopSocial publishes** the finished image. (Pairs tightly with `data-and-original-
research`.)

## The POV: make one point land in three seconds — honestly
A great visualization doesn't add information; it makes the insight that was always in the numbers **impossible to
miss.** Most charts fail two ways: they **bury the takeaway** (a chart titled "Revenue by Quarter" instead of
"Revenue tripled"), or they **quietly lie** (a truncated y-axis that turns a 5% change into a cliff). The craft is
**honest clarity.** Three top-1% moves: **(1) the title is the takeaway, not a label** — the single change that
makes data viz get understood and shared; **(2) honest scales are strategy, not just ethics** — misleading charts
get called out and fact-checked in 2026, and the credibility hit dwarfs the punchy distortion; **(3) sometimes the
