## What it does

This skill covers launching and maintaining the Infisical platform on private infrastructure. It supports single Docker containers, production Docker Compose setups, and Kubernetes rollouts using the `infisical-standalone-postgres` Helm chart. The application itself is stateless. Scaling requires adding container replicas with 2–4 CPU cores and 4–8 GB RAM rather than resizing a single node.

Two external backends are mandatory. PostgreSQL 14 or higher serves as the primary data store, tested against version 16. Redis 6.x or 7.x handles background job queues, rate limiting, and coordination. A Redis instance configured without `noeviction` will drop pending tasks during memory spikes. Standalone, Sentinel, and Cluster topologies are supported, with active-passive replication recommended.

Security configuration demands stable keys. Generating `ENCRYPTION_KEY` as a 16-byte hex value is mandatory for default setups, while FIPS 140-3 deployments require a 256-bit base64 key alongside the dedicated `infisical/infisical-fips` image. Losing this root key destroys access to all encrypted secrets permanently. Note that this skill manages the core platform; deploying the Kubernetes operator requires a separate Helm chart and skill.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Infisical/ai-skills --skill infisical-self-host -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/infisical-self-host/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Infisical/ai-skills --skill infisical-self-host -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Infisical/ai-skills --skill infisical-self-host -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Infisical/ai-skills infisical-self-host
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Infisical/ai-skills --skill infisical-self-host -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Infisical/ai-skills --path skills/infisical-self-host
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Infisical/ai-skills --skill infisical-self-host -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Infisical/ai-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/infisical-self-host/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- deploy the Infisical platform via Docker Compose or Kubernetes Helm charts
- generate root `ENCRYPTION_KEY` and session `AUTH_SECRET` parameters
- configure Redis with required `noeviction` settings and data persistence
- connect PostgreSQL 14+ databases with automatic schema migrations
- set up FIPS 140-3 container environments using compliant encryption keys

## Example prompts
- Generate the environment variable block and encryption keys for a Docker Compose deployment.
- Show me how to configure Redis persistence and eviction policies for Infisical.
- Help me deploy the platform on Kubernetes using the official Helm chart.

# Infisical Self-Hosted Deployment

This skill guides you through deploying, configuring, and operating Infisical in self-hosted environments. Whether you are running Infisical on Docker, Docker Compose, or Kubernetes, this resource covers essential setup, security hardening, scaling, and maintenance patterns.

## Not this skill

| If the user wants... | Use |
|----------------------|-----|
| To deploy the **Kubernetes Operator** (also a Helm chart, different thing) | `infisical-kubernetes-operator` |
| To reach a private resource from Infisical | `infisical-gateway` |
| To configure SSO or SCIM on their instance | `infisical-sso` |
| Roles, permissions, audit log streams | `infisical-access-control` |
| To use Infisical once it is running | `infisical-setup` |
| An external KMS or HSM backing the root key | `infisical-kms` |

The Helm confusion is worth pre-empting: the `secrets-operator` chart installs the **operator**;
this skill covers the chart that installs the **platform**. Both come from the same Cloudsmith repo.

## Guiding Principles

1. **ENCRYPTION_KEY is Critical**: This key encrypts all secrets at rest and **cannot be recovered if lost**. Back it up and rotate it carefully following Infisical's rotation procedures.
   - Standard deployments: a random 16-byte hex string — `openssl rand -hex 16`
```
