## What it does

The skill chains four sub-skills into one pipeline: `/research-lit`, `/idea-creator`, `/novelty-check` and `/research-review`. It starts by framing the problem — arm, mobile manipulator, drone, humanoid or quadruped, which task family, observation modalities and action interface, what simulator and benchmark are on hand. The survey then gets reorganised as a robotics matrix: embodiment, task, learning setup, action abstraction, eval regime, metrics and the main bottleneck.

Ideas are filtered toward simulation. `MAX_PILOT_IDEAS = 3` caps deep validation at three top candidates, `PILOT_MODE = sim-first` puts simulation or offline logs ahead of hardware, and `REAL_ROBOT_PILOTS = explicit approval only` means the skill never assumes physical robot access. If you stay quiet at a checkpoint, `AUTO_PROCEED = true` carries the run forward with the strongest sim-first option.

The reviewer slot runs through Codex MCP with `gpt-6-astra` as the default model, and novelty framing targets CoRL, RSS, ICRA, IROS and RA-L. That means a configured `codex` MCP server is required — without it the reviewer slot returns `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. You can override the frame inline, for instance to keep everything in simulation or to narrow the venue list.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill idea-discovery-robot -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/idea-discovery-robot/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill idea-discovery-robot -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill idea-discovery-robot -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep idea-discovery-robot
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill idea-discovery-robot -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/idea-discovery-robot
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill idea-discovery-robot -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/idea-discovery-robot/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map a robotics field by embodiment, benchmark and sim2real setup
- surface recurring failure modes that papers leave unfixed
- shape an idea that a public benchmark can falsify
- drop topics that would need a physical robot
- get critical feedback before submitting to CoRL or ICRA

## Example prompts
- /idea-discovery-robot "bimanual manipulation" — only sim ideas, no real robot
- /idea-discovery-robot "drone navigation" — focus on CoRL/RSS, 2 pilot ideas max
- /idea-discovery-robot "locomotion on legged terrain"

# Robotics Idea Discovery Pipeline

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their
> own first-call/reply contract. Save the route and actual returned identity;
> unavailable selections are `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Classify acceptance from actual
> families/completion/scope. Forward invocation reviewer/model/effort overrides
> to reviewer-bearing children. Generation workers are unchanged.

## Overview

This skill chains four sub-skills into a single automated pipeline:

```
/research-lit → /idea-creator (robotics framing) → /novelty-check → /research-review
  (survey)              (filter + pilot plan)         (verify novel)    (critical feedback)
```

But every phase must be grounded in robotics-specific constraints:
- **Embodiment**: arm, mobile manipulator, drone, humanoid, quadruped, autonomous car, etc.
- **Task family**: grasping, insertion, locomotion, navigation, manipulation, rearrangement, multi-step planning
