## What it does

The skill activates when you are figuring out what to build and how to approach it: new projects, architecture decisions, weighing options. A clear implementation request does not trigger it, since the direction is already there.

Inside are decision tables. One picks the shape of the work: open exploration, a recommendation with evidence, a test of a single assumption, or moving straight into implementation. Another grounds the question — read the relevant code and artifacts, name the constraint that matters most and what is still unknown. A third compares alternatives along dimensions like state ownership, migration cost, runtime behavior and reversibility. There is also a table for evidence gaps, mapping each gap to the next move.

The skill leans on project memory when it is configured. It is explicit that memory supplies leads, not facts, so a volatile claim should be checked against current code first. With Sibyl configured, it points to that skill for current commands. Product and risk calls stay with you; implementation details do not need a fresh consent question.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hyperb1iss/hyperskills --skill brainstorm -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/brainstorm/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/brainstorm/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hyperb1iss/hyperskills --skill brainstorm -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/brainstorm/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hyperb1iss/hyperskills --skill brainstorm -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/brainstorm/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install hyperb1iss/hyperskills brainstorm
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/brainstorm/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hyperb1iss/hyperskills --skill brainstorm -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/hyperb1iss/hyperskills --path skills/brainstorm
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/brainstorm/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hyperb1iss/hyperskills --skill brainstorm -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- break an open architecture question into options with their carrying cost
- separate explicit requirements from inferred preferences
- find the check that settles a key assumption before writing code
- record a decision with its rationale and the condition that reopens it
- work out where each responsibility belongs across callers

## Example prompts
- let's brainstorm the architecture for the new service
- help me choose between a queue and direct calls, I want the tradeoffs laid out
- before writing code, test the main assumption about load

# Collaborative Brainstorming

Turn uncertainty into a useful choice or a focused experiment. Explore only the questions that could change the design. A clear implementation request already supplies direction; act on it without manufacturing a brainstorm or approval gate.

The user's instructions take precedence over this skill's guidelines. Preserve their constraints and existing authorization. Resolve routine design details with judgment; ask only when missing information materially changes the outcome and cannot be inferred.

## Choose the Work Shape

| Situation                                                 | Useful output                                                        |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The user wants open exploration | Distinct directions with concrete tradeoffs and unresolved questions |
| The problem is clear but the mechanism is uncertain | A recommendation and the evidence that would overturn it |
| One assumption determines feasibility | A small test of that assumption before elaborating designs |
| The approach is selected and implementation is authorized | Continue into implementation |
| The user asks why something happens | Diagnose the cause before designing a fix |

## Ground the Question

Read the relevant code, artifact, or workflow and recall prior decisions. When Sibyl is configured, use its installed skill for current commands (`sibyl context "<decision>" --intent plan`). Memory supplies leads; inspect current evidence before reusing a volatile claim.

Name the intended experience or behavior, the constraint that matters most, and what remains unknown. Treat the user's hunch as a hypothesis worth checking, not a claim to rubber-stamp. A decisive check can confirm part of the hunch and reject the rest; report both.
