## What it does

The skill reads what you actually want — a website, an application, a managed database — and works out the Huawei Cloud resource set from that: VPC, subnet, security group, ECS or RDS, ELB, EIP. It then proposes a concrete plan with recommended specifications instead of making you fill in every parameter. You confirm only the decisions that affect correctness, cost or architecture.

The workflow runs in nine phases. Before writing any code, the skill must verify each resource specification against the target region — query first, write later. That means reading `../huawei-cloud-computing-query/SKILL.md` and invoking the query skill. A failed query is a blocker, not permission to continue. Generation comes next, then validation runs until `terraform plan` succeeds, and `terraform apply` only after explicit confirmation.

Credentials come from the `HW_ACCESS_KEY` and `HW_SECRET_KEY` environment variables. For temporary STS credentials the agent must read `HW_SECURITY_TOKEN` or `HUAWEICLOUD_SECURITY_TOKEN` and write it to `terraform.tfvars` as `security_token`, because the provider does not reliably resolve it from the environment. If the variable is unset, the parameter is omitted. Security group rules are strict: ports get confirmed with you first, an egress rule without ingress is forbidden, and hardcoded default ports are too.

## Requirements
- Works with: Terraform

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-terraform-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-terraform-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-terraform-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills huawei-cloud-terraform-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-terraform-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --path skills/devtools/terraform/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-terraform-generator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/devtools/terraform/huawei-cloud-terraform-generator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate a Terraform configuration for a site or app on Huawei Cloud
- check that resource specifications exist in the chosen region before writing code
- agree on open security group ports instead of shipping a default set
- get the configuration to a passing `terraform plan` and apply it after confirmation
- pass a temporary STS token into `terraform.tfvars` when the provider misses it in the environment

## Example prompts
- Deploy a website on Huawei Cloud: VPC, subnet, security group, ECS and EIP in cn-north-4
- Generate Terraform for RDS reachable from the subnet, confirm the ports with me first
- Verify ECS specifications in cn-south-1 and only then write the configuration

# Huawei Cloud Terraform Generator

## 1. Overview

This skill turns user infrastructure goals into Terraform configurations for Huawei Cloud. The primary workflow is to:

1. understand the user's actual deployment intent
2. determine which resources should be created
3. determine whether existing resources should be reused
4. confirm key specifications and dependencies
5. **verify every resource specification against the target region's available resources — query first, write later**
6. ensure Terraform is installed
7. generate Terraform configuration files
8. run validation steps and fix generation issues until `terraform plan` succeeds
9. ask user for confirmation and execute `terraform apply` if approved
