## What it does

The skill opens an SSH connection to Ascend machines and runs commands there. You can hold several connections at once and pull `npu-smi info`, disk and LVM state, containers, logs and security audit output. Credentials come from command line arguments only, never from the chat, and the password is destroyed when the session ends.

Four pieces sit behind it: a session manager with connection pooling and timeouts, a command executor, an SSH client built on paramiko with ControlMaster, and a validator that blocks dangerous commands. Deletes, formats, unmounts, reboots and recursive `chmod` or `chown` all need explicit confirmation first. Worth knowing before you hand it a production box: the agent will stop and ask instead of running the command.

You need Python 3.8+ and paramiko 3.4.0 or newer. Check with `python3 --version` and `python3 -c "import paramiko; print('OK')"`. If the library is missing, install it with `pip3 install --user paramiko cryptography`. The target server has to run SSH, and the account needs enough rights for system management.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --path skills/ai/modelarts/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills --skill huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/huaweicloud/huaweicloud-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ai/modelarts/huawei-cloud-ascend-remote-connect/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- open an SSH session to an Ascend server and run a command
- check NPU load and health with npu-smi
- sort out disks and LVM on a remote machine
- inspect containers and pods on the server
- read logs and security audit results

## Example prompts
- SSH connect to 192.168.1.100 port 22 as root and show npu-smi info
- Run an NPU health check on the connected machine
- Show current connections and switch to 192.168.1.101

# Huawei Cloud Ascend Remote Connection

## Overview

Provides temporary SSH remote connection capability for Huawei Cloud Ascend devices. Supports simultaneous connection to multiple machines. All sensitive operations (delete, modify, move, etc.) require user confirmation before execution. Passwords are only stored in memory and destroyed after session ends.
