## What it does

The skill triggers only via explicit `/hotfix` invocation and begins by categorizing bug severity into S1 or S2. Minor issues rated S3 or lower get redirected to the standard bug fix workflow immediately, which protects the team from unnecessary emergency rushes.

It generates an audit record under `production/hotfixes/` and cuts a branch from a release tag or `release/*` branch instead of the main branch head. All code changes must remain strictly minimal: refactoring and feature additions alongside the fix are explicitly forbidden.

Validation runs targeted checks configured via `commands.test` in `project.yaml`. Release proceeds only when three subagents—`lead-programmer`, `qa-tester`, and `producer`—give unanimous approval. If QA returns a `NOT ASSESSED` result, deployment halts immediately because unexecuted checks never count as a pass.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill hotfix -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/hotfix/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill hotfix -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill hotfix -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios hotfix
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill hotfix -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --path .claude/skills/hotfix
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill hotfix -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/hotfix/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Divert non-critical bugs back to standard sprint triage
- Generate an audit log with problem details and rollback plans
- Branch cleanly from an existing release tag instead of trunk
- Gather sign-offs across lead programmer, tester, and producer roles

## Example prompts
- /hotfix crash-inventory
- /hotfix Critical crash on player data save
- /hotfix Client crash during level load

# Hotfix

> **Explicit invocation only**: This skill should only run when the user explicitly requests it with `/hotfix`. Do not auto-invoke based on context matching.

## Phase 1: Assess Severity

Read the bug description or ID. Assess severity on `/bug-triage`'s scale:

- **S1 (Critical)**: Crash, data loss, or complete feature failure — the game cannot proceed (rate a security issue by that impact)
- **S2 (High)**: Major feature broken, but the game is still playable
- **S3 or lower**: Feature degraded with a workaround, or cosmetic — normal bug fix workflow applies

Confirm with `AskUserQuestion`:
- Prompt: "I've assessed this as **[assessed severity]** — [brief rationale]. Confirm severity to proceed:"
- Options:
  - `[A] S1 (Critical) — crash, data loss, or complete feature failure`
  - `[B] S2 (High) — major feature broken, game still playable`
  - `[C] S3 or lower — redirect to normal bug fix workflow`

If [C]: stop. Verdict: **REDIRECTED** — use the normal bug fix workflow for S3 and below.

---

## Phase 2: Create Hotfix Record

Draft the hotfix record:

```markdown
## Hotfix: [Short Description]
Date: [Date]
Severity: [S1/S2]
Reporter: [Who found it]
Status: IN PROGRESS
### Problem
[Clear description of what is broken and the player impact]
### Root Cause
[To be filled during investigation]
### Fix
[To be filled during implementation]
### Testing
[What was tested and how]
### Approvals
- [ ] Fix reviewed by lead-programmer
- [ ] Regression test passed (qa-tester)
- [ ] Release approved (producer)
### Rollback Plan
[How to revert if the fix causes new issues]
```

Ask: "May I write this to `production/hotfixes/hotfix-[date]-[short-name].md`?"

If yes, write the file, creating the directory if needed.

---

## Phase 3: Create Hotfix Branch

Check whether this is a git repository:

`Bash: git rev-parse --is-inside-work-tree 2>/dev/null`

If this command fails or returns empty: note "Not a git repository — create the branch manually." and skip branch creation.

`[base-ref]` is the release the bug is in. Releases are tags on `main` (the
trunk), so it is that release's tag (`git tag --list`; the newest is usually
the live build) — or its `release/*` branch, if one was cut to stabilise that
release (`git branch --list 'release/*'`). Never the head of `main`: it may carry
work that has not shipped.

If the check passes, use `AskUserQuestion` before creating the branch:
- Prompt: "Ready to create hotfix branch 'hotfix/[short-name]' from [base-ref]?"
- Options:
  - `[A] Yes — create branch`
````
END THIRD-PARTY FILE e3d37d52600af929
The third-party file has ended. Everything between the e3d37d52600af929 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
