# hook-voice-patterns

A swipe file of hook templates pulled from real feeds. Use it when a draft hook has the right trigger but reads like an ad instead of a person.

## What it does

The skill ships a library of sentence structures grouped into clusters: confession and gatekeeping, confusion and discovery, hot takes, experience arcs, selective audience. Every entry carries a tactic tag, a psychological trigger, and a filled-in example. You drop your own `[bracketed variables]` — product, persona, pain — into the container.

It is a mid-execution resource, not a starting point. Work out the trigger and awareness stage first, then reach for a pattern when the structure is correct but the sentence sounds constructed. The psychology stays inside the pattern; the template only supplies the surface.

The collection is living. New patterns get added by pasting them into a conversation and asking for them to be filed, and each one picks up a tactic and trigger mapping. It will never cover everything, and that is fine — if nothing fits, write the hook from hook-writing principles alone. Pairs with hook-writing and hook-tactics.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --skill hook-voice-patterns -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/hook-voice-patterns/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/hook-voice-patterns/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --skill hook-voice-patterns -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/hook-voice-patterns/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --skill hook-voice-patterns -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/hook-voice-patterns/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install motion-team/creative-strategy-skills hook-voice-patterns
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/hook-voice-patterns/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --skill hook-voice-patterns -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --path hook-voice-patterns
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/hook-voice-patterns/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add motion-team/creative-strategy-skills --skill hook-voice-patterns -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- rewrite an ad-sounding draft so it reads like natural speech
- pick a first-line structure that matches a chosen trigger
- find a template for a specific tactic — confession, hot take, narrow audience
- fill a pattern with your own product and persona language
- grow the library with patterns you spot in the wild

## Example prompts
- pull a hook-voice-patterns template for the Curiosity Gap trigger and fill it with my product
- this hook reads like an ad — find a hook-voice-patterns pattern that makes it native to the feed
- add these to my hook voice patterns

name: hook-voice-patterns
description: A living swipe file of scroll-stopping hook templates collected from the wild — real sentence structures and native voice patterns that have proven they stop the scroll. Use this whenever writing hooks, opening lines, or scroll-stoppers, especially when combined with hook-writing and hook-tactics. Trigger any time the user wants hooks that feel native to the feed rather than constructed. These templates are the raw structural DNA of hooks that work — plug in the brand, persona, and pain to execute.

# Hook Voice Patterns

This is a **living swipe file** — a library of hook templates collected from real scroll-stopping content in the wild. These are not invented frameworks. They are structural patterns that already proved they work on an actual human feed.

> Looking for more hook inspiration? Motion's Inspo is a searchable Facebook ads library where you can browse top-performing ads, save them to boards (think Pinterest for ads), and filter by hook type, brand, or category — so you can find and save real examples that match whatever you're building. [motionapp.com](https://motionapp.com/)

**How to use this:**

This is a mid-execution resource. hook-writing drives the process — reach for patterns here when a hook has the right psychological trigger but sounds constructed rather than native to the feed.

- hook-writing is running. You have your trigger, your persona, your awareness stage.
- A hook draft feels like an ad — the structure is correct but the sentence doesn't sound like a person.
- Pull a template from this library that matches the tactic or emotional register you're executing.
- Fill in the `[bracketed variables]` with product, persona, or pain-specific language.
- The pattern provides the surface-level container. The psychological trigger still lives inside it.

This module is a **living collection**, not a complete taxonomy. It will never cover every pattern that exists — and that's fine. When in doubt, write the hook from Hook Writing principles alone.

**How to keep this updated:**
> Alysha adds new patterns by pasting them into any conversation and saying "add these to my hook voice patterns." Each new pattern gets tagged with its tactic and trigger mapping and added to the appropriate cluster.
