## What it does

This skill guides your coding agent through Cloudflare Workers patterns with the Hono framework. It provides project scaffolding instructions and `wrangler.toml` configurations.

Included code patterns cover standard operations for D1 SQLite databases, Cloudflare KV with metadata, and R2 buckets. It demonstrates batch SQL queries via `c.env.DB.batch()` alongside route handlers with key expiration TTLs.

TypeScript bindings must match your `wrangler.toml` declarations. If binding names diverge, runtime calls fail.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill hono-cloudflare -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/hono-cloudflare/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill hono-cloudflare -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill hono-cloudflare -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills hono-cloudflare
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill hono-cloudflare -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/javascript/frameworks/hono/hono-cloudflare
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill hono-cloudflare -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills/tree/HEAD/toolchains/javascript/frameworks/hono/hono-cloudflare/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure type-safe bindings for Cloudflare Workers in Hono
- implement CRUD routes backed by Cloudflare D1 and KV
- set up `wrangler.toml` configurations for databases and queues
- run batch database transactions using `c.env.DB.batch`

## Example prompts
- Scaffold a Hono API on Cloudflare Workers with D1 and KV bindings.
- Write a KV cache endpoint with a 3600-second expiration TTL.
- Show a `wrangler.toml` setup linking D1 databases and R2 buckets.

# Hono on Cloudflare Workers

## Overview

Hono was originally built for Cloudflare Workers and provides first-class support for the entire Cloudflare ecosystem including KV, D1, R2, Durable Objects, Queues, and more.

**Key Features**:
- Native Workers support
- Type-safe bindings access
- KV, D1, R2, Durable Objects integration
- Static asset serving
- Cloudflare Pages support
- Queue and scheduled handlers

## When to Use This Skill

Use Hono on Cloudflare when:
- Building edge APIs with global distribution
- Need serverless SQLite with D1
- Building real-time apps with Durable Objects
- Storing files with R2
- Need fast key-value storage with KV
- Deploying full-stack apps to Pages

## Quick Start

### Create New Project

```bash
npm create hono@latest my-app
# Select: cloudflare-workers
cd my-app
npm install
npm run dev
```

### Project Structure

```
my-app/
├── src/
│   └── index.ts         # Main entry point
├── wrangler.toml        # Cloudflare configuration
├── package.json
└── tsconfig.json
```

### Basic Application

```typescript
// src/index.ts
import { Hono } from 'hono'
const app = new Hono()
app.get('/', (c) => c.text('Hello Cloudflare Workers!'))
export default app
```

### Deploy

```bash
# Deploy to Cloudflare
npx wrangler deploy
# Local development
npx wrangler dev
```

## Environment Bindings

### Typed Bindings

```typescript
import { Hono } from 'hono'
// Define your bindings
type Bindings = {
  // Environment variables
  API_KEY: string
  DATABASE_URL: string
  // KV Namespaces
  MY_KV: KVNamespace
  // D1 Databases
  DB: D1Database
  // R2 Buckets
  BUCKET: R2Bucket
  // Durable Objects
  COUNTER: DurableObjectNamespace
  // Queues
  MY_QUEUE: Queue
}
const app = new Hono<{ Bindings: Bindings }>()
app.get('/config', (c) => {
  // Fully typed access
  const apiKey = c.env.API_KEY
  return c.json({ configured: !!apiKey })
})
export default app
```

### wrangler.toml Configuration

```toml
name = "my-app"
main = "src/index.ts"
compatibility_date = "2024-01-01"
[vars]
API_KEY = "your-api-key"  # pragma: allowlist secret
[[kv_namespaces]]
binding = "MY_KV"
id = "your-kv-id"
[[d1_databases]]
binding = "DB"
database_name = "my-database"
database_id = "your-d1-id"
[[r2_buckets]]
binding = "BUCKET"
bucket_name = "my-bucket"
[[queues.producers]]
binding = "MY_QUEUE"
