## What it does

Home Assistant Automation provides device commands and YAML workflow patterns for Home Assistant. It can turn lights on or off, set thermostat values, control media players and locks, monitor sensor states, and return event information.

The skill includes automation templates with triggers, conditions, actions, and delays. It also covers scenes such as `movie_night` and `good_night`, voice intents, energy monitoring, and security flows that capture a camera snapshot and send a notification.

A connected `homeassistant-mcp` server is required, with `ha_service_call`, `ha_state_get`, `ha_automation`, and `ha_scene` tools. Check that MCP connection first, because device actions depend on it.

## Requirements
- Works with: Home Assistant

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant-automation -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/home-assistant/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/home-assistant/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/home-assistant/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/home-assistant/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install claude-office-skills/skills home-assistant
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/home-assistant/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills --path home-assistant
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/home-assistant/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill home-assistant -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/home-assistant/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn on lights from a time or sensor trigger
- build morning and good-night home routines
- switch climate settings when everyone leaves
- define a movie-night scene
- send a camera snapshot after motion detection

## Example prompts
- Create a `morning_routine` that triggers at `06:30:00`, turns on `light.bedroom`, sets the temperature, and starts `news_briefing`.
- Define a `good_night` scene that turns off `light.all_lights`, locks `lock.all_locks`, and arms the home for night.
- When `binary_sensor.motion_front` turns on, capture `camera.front_door` and send a mobile notification with the image.
