## What it does

The skill groups HIPAA requirements into administrative, physical, and technical safeguards, alongside privacy and breach notification rules. Its checklist covers access control, audit activity, backups, and key management across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

It calls for AES-256 for stored data and TLS 1.2 or higher for data in transit. The checklist distinguishes required from addressable measures; addressable items still need assessment for the system in question. It also covers vendor Business Associate Agreements. Following a checklist does not by itself establish HIPAA compliance.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill hipaa-compliance -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/hipaa-compliance/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/hipaa-compliance/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill hipaa-compliance -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/hipaa-compliance/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill hipaa-compliance -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/hipaa-compliance/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills hipaa-compliance
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/hipaa-compliance/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill hipaa-compliance -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path compliance/frameworks/hipaa-compliance
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/hipaa-compliance/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill hipaa-compliance -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- map HIPAA safeguards for a system that handles ePHI
- review cloud storage encryption settings
- identify access-control and audit requirements
- plan PHI protections and vendor BAA steps

## Example prompts
- Review this ePHI service architecture against HIPAA safeguards.
- Build an AWS checklist for protecting PHI in this project.
- Identify the access-control and audit measures this system needs.

## When to Use

- Building or operating systems that handle electronic Protected Health Information
- Configuring cloud infrastructure for HIPAA-eligible workloads
- Establishing Business Associate Agreements with vendors
- Implementing technical safeguards for PHI protection
- Preparing for HIPAA compliance audits or OCR investigations
