## What it does

The skill hands your agent a reference for Headless UI from Tailwind Labs. It walks through the component catalog: Menu, Listbox, Combobox, Dialog, Popover. Each entry shows the import, the markup and Tailwind classes, so the agent writes code that matches your project instead of guessing the API.

Components ship without styles. Colors, spacing and transitions are yours to set. Keyboard handling, focus and ARIA attributes come included: arrow keys, type-ahead search, Escape to close, click outside. Render props cover custom logic, and TypeScript is supported.

Install the library first: `npm install @headlessui/react` or `npm install @headlessui/vue`. The examples target React 18 and Vue 3, so older versions won't compile them. The skill is not user-invocable and model invocation is disabled, which means it works as a reference the agent reads, not a command you run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill headlessui -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/headlessui/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/headlessui/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill headlessui -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/headlessui/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill headlessui -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/headlessui/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills headlessui
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/headlessui/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill headlessui -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/ui/components/headlessui
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/headlessui/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill headlessui -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- build a dropdown menu with arrow-key navigation
- replace a native select with a custom one
- add autocomplete that filters as you type
- fix focus and ARIA inside a modal
- wire unstyled primitives to Tailwind classes

## Example prompts
- Build a dropdown with Headless UI Menu that closes on Escape
- Make a Combobox that searches through a list of people
- Rewrite this modal with Headless UI Dialog and keep my styles
