## What it does

This skill equips coding agents with command patterns for uv instead of traditional pip or poetry setups. It covers project initialization, standalone PEP 723 scripts, and interpreter switching. It replaces multiple legacy tools at once.

It also details deployment workflows, including pinned GitHub Actions configurations and a multistage Dockerfile designed around layer caching. Without `uv` installed and available on your system `PATH`, the skill halts execution.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add harperreed/dotfiles --skill uv -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/uv/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/uv/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add harperreed/dotfiles --skill uv -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/uv/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add harperreed/dotfiles --skill uv -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/uv/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install harperreed/dotfiles uv
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/uv/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add harperreed/dotfiles --skill uv -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/harperreed/dotfiles --path .claude/skills/uv
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/uv/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add harperreed/dotfiles --skill uv -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/harperreed/dotfiles/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/uv/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- set up reproducible Python dependencies and `uv.lock`
- write a multistage Dockerfile with uv layer caching
- configure GitHub Actions tests using `astral-sh/setup-uv`
- migrate project commands from pip, poetry, or pyenv to uv

## Example prompts
- Migrate this repository dependencies from poetry to uv
- Generate a multistage Dockerfile for my app using uv sync --frozen
- Add httpx to script.py using PEP 723 metadata format
