## What it does

The skill runs through `npx -y @midscene/harmony@1` and leans on the model's vision instead of interface markup. The agent takes a screenshot, reads it, then decides the next tap. So it does not matter what the app is built with — only what shows on screen.

Commands cover the whole loop: `connect` for the device, `launch` for an app or URL, `act` for actions described in plain language, `assert` to check screen state, plus `take_screenshot` and `runhdcshell` for lower-level calls forwarded to `hdc shell`. Do not run these in the background and do not chain them. Wait for the output, look at the screenshot, then pick the next step. A typical command takes about a minute, and a complex `act` takes longer.

Two things have to be in place first. HDC: install it via DevEco Studio or point `HDC_HOME` at its directory, then confirm with `hdc version` and `hdc list targets`. And a model with strong visual grounding: set `MIDSCENE_MODEL_API_KEY`, `MIDSCENE_MODEL_NAME`, `MIDSCENE_MODEL_BASE_URL` and `MIDSCENE_MODEL_FAMILY` as environment variables or in a `.env` file in the working directory. Without a configured model nothing runs, so check that before anything else. Two-finger zoom is out — the HarmonyOS automation layer does not expose multi-touch input.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmonyos-device-automation -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmony-automation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/harmony-automation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmony-automation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmony-automation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install web-infra-dev/midscene-skills harmony-automation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmony-automation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --path skills/harmony-automation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add web-infra-dev/midscene-skills --skill harmony-automation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/web-infra-dev/midscene-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/harmony-automation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check that an app actually launches on a HarmonyOS device
- capture a screenshot and read the current screen state
- type into a field and submit a form
- walk through a login flow and confirm it succeeded
- verify a screen matches the expected state in a QA run

## Example prompts
- connect to the HarmonyOS device and take a screenshot
- open Settings, go to Wi-Fi and tell me the connected network name
- type hello world in the search field and press Enter

# HarmonyOS Device Automation

> **CRITICAL RULES — VIOLATIONS WILL BREAK THE WORKFLOW:**
>
> 1. **Never run midscene commands in the background.** Each command must run synchronously so you can read its output (especially screenshots) before deciding the next action. Background execution breaks the screenshot-analyze-act loop.
> 2. **Run only one midscene command at a time.** Wait for the previous command to finish, read the screenshot, then decide the next action. Never chain multiple commands together.
> 3. **Allow enough time for each command to complete.** Midscene commands involve AI inference and screen interaction, which can take longer than typical shell commands. A typical command needs about 1 minute; complex `act` commands may need even longer.

Automate HarmonyOS NEXT devices using `npx -y @midscene/harmony@1`. Each CLI command maps directly to an MCP tool — you (the AI agent) act as the brain, deciding which actions to take based on screenshots.

## What `act` Can Do

Inside a single `act` call on HarmonyOS, Midscene can tap, double-tap, long-press, type, clear text, scroll, drag items, press keys, and use system navigation such as Back, Home, or recent apps while working from the current visible screen. Two-finger zoom is not available because the underlying HarmonyOS automation layer does not expose multi-touch input.
