## What it does

The skill reviews Dockerfiles, built images, and per-container runtime flags. It covers non-root users, dropped capabilities, read-only root filesystems, resource limits, seccomp, and AppArmor. It also guides minimal multi-stage builds and Docker Content Trust checks.

Validation uses `docker-bench-security`, `Hadolint`, and `Dockle`. The material includes checks for containers running as root and runtime settings such as `--cap-drop ALL`, `--security-opt`, and resource limits. It targets CIS Docker Benchmark v1.8.0; Docker daemon configuration belongs to `hardening-docker-daemon-configuration` instead.

Before using it, check for Docker Engine 24.0+, Docker Compose v2, and a Linux host with kernel 5.10+. Root or sudo access is required, along with `docker-bench-security`, `Hadolint`, and `Dockle`. That makes the host setup a point to verify before running the audit.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hardening-docker-containers-for-production -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hardening-docker-containers-for-production -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hardening-docker-containers-for-production -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills hardening-docker-containers-for-production
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hardening-docker-containers-for-production -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hardening-docker-containers-for-production -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/hardening-docker-containers-for-production/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- harden a Dockerfile before a production build
- run a container with a read-only root filesystem
- remove unnecessary capabilities and root access
- lint a Dockerfile and image with Hadolint and Dockle
- check container settings against the CIS Docker Benchmark

## Example prompts
- Review my `Dockerfile` against CIS Docker Benchmark v1.8.0 and suggest changes for a non-root container.
- Audit `myapp:latest` with `Hadolint` and `Dockle`, then list the issues found.
- Prepare a production `docker run` command with `--cap-drop ALL`, seccomp, and AppArmor.

# Hardening Docker Containers for Production

## Overview

Hardening Docker containers for production involves applying security best practices aligned with CIS Docker Benchmark v1.8.0 to minimize attack surface, prevent privilege escalation, and enforce least-privilege principles across Docker daemon, images, containers, and runtime configurations.

## When to Use

- When deploying or configuring hardening docker containers for production capabilities in your environment
- When establishing security controls aligned to compliance requirements
- When building or improving security architecture for this domain
- When conducting security assessments that require this implementation

## Prerequisites

- Docker Engine 24.0+ installed
- Docker Compose v2
- Linux host with kernel 5.10+
- Root or sudo access on Docker host
- docker-bench-security tool
- Hadolint for Dockerfile linting
- Dockle for image linting

## Core Concepts

### CIS Docker Benchmark Sections

1. **Host Configuration** - Audit Docker daemon files, restrict access to /var/run/docker.sock
