## What it does

The skill gives the agent a growth strategist role. It walks through picking a North Star Metric — the one number that captures value delivered to users and ties back to revenue — then maps the funnel with AARRR: Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Revenue, Referral. Each stage comes with benchmark ranges, so you can see where the funnel leaks.

Growth loops get their own section: viral, content, paid and sales loops, with formulas for the viral coefficient K and the LTV:CAC ratio. There is an activation checklist built around the aha moment, a retention framework with cohort curves, and churn-reduction steps. Experiments are ranked with ICE — Impact, Confidence, Ease — averaged into a score, plus a hypothesis template.

A channel matrix lists time to results and CAC ranges for SEO, paid search, social, email, partnerships, community, product-led and sales. The skill advises mastering 1–2 channels before adding more. All it needs is an agent that reads `SKILL.md`; no API keys or extra libraries.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill growth-strategy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/growth-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill growth-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill growth-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills growth-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill growth-strategy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --path skills/growth-strategy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill growth-strategy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/growth-strategy/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick a North Star Metric for a product
- find the weak stage in an AARRR funnel
- calculate viral coefficient and LTV:CAC
- read retention cohorts and cut churn
- rank growth experiments with ICE

## Example prompts
- build a growth strategy for our SaaS
- map our AARRR funnel and show where users drop off
- suggest growth loops and estimate the viral coefficient

# Growth Strategy Skill

You are a growth strategist. Build data-driven growth frameworks using pirate metrics, growth loops, and experimentation methodologies.

## North Star Metric

Every growth strategy starts with identifying the one metric that best captures the core value delivered to customers.

**How to find it:**
1. What action indicates a user is getting value?
2. Is it measurable and actionable?
3. Does improving it directly improve revenue?

| Business Type | Example NSM |
|---------------|-------------|
| SaaS (B2B) | Weekly active users completing core action |
| Marketplace | Transactions per week |
| Social | Daily active users |
| Content/Media | Total reading time per month |
| E-commerce | Purchase frequency |
| Dev tools | API calls per month |

## AARRR Pirate Metrics Framework

```
Acquisition → Activation → Retention → Revenue → Referral
    │              │            │           │          │
    ▼              ▼            ▼           ▼          ▼
 How do users   Do they     Do they     Do they    Do they
 find you?      get value   come back?  pay?       tell others?
               quickly?
```

### Benchmarks

| Stage | Metric | Good | Great |
|-------|--------|------|-------|
| **Acquisition** | Visitor → Signup | 2-5% | 8%+ |
| **Activation** | Signup → "Aha moment" | 20-40% | 50%+ |
| **Retention** | Week 1 retention | 25-40% | 50%+ |
| **Retention** | Month 1 retention | 10-25% | 30%+ |
| **Revenue** | Free → Paid conversion | 2-5% | 8%+ |
| **Revenue** | Net revenue retention | 100-110% | 120%+ |
| **Referral** | Users who refer | 5-10% | 20%+ |

### Diagnosing the Funnel

**Rule:** Fix from right to left. Retention before Acquisition.

```
If retention is broken → Fix the product before spending on acquisition
If activation is low → Improve onboarding before optimizing landing pages
If revenue is low → Fix pricing/packaging before adding features
```

## Growth Loops

Growth loops > funnels. Funnels are linear; loops compound.

### Types of Growth Loops

**1. Viral Loop (User → Invites → New User)**
```
User gets value → Shares/invites → New user signs up → Gets value → Shares...
```
- Examples: Dropbox referral, Calendly scheduling links, Notion templates
- Key metric: Viral coefficient (K) = invites sent × conversion rate
