## What it does

This skill guides the setup of Qdrant as the vector store for GrepAI. It explains how to edit `.grepai/config.yaml`, deploy an instance using Docker or Docker Compose, and connect to managed Qdrant Cloud clusters with TLS encryption.

GrepAI communicates with Qdrant via gRPC on port 6334, while port 6333 hosts the REST API and web dashboard. If you migrate from default GOB storage or PostgreSQL, the previous index must be cleared before running `grepai watch` to re-index repository files.

Exposing only REST port 6333 will break GrepAI connections because the client strictly requires gRPC. You can confirm the server health with `curl http://localhost:6333/health` and verify the backend via `grepai status`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-storage-qdrant -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-storage-qdrant -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-storage-qdrant -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills grepai-storage-qdrant
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-storage-qdrant -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --path skills/storage/grepai-storage-qdrant
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-storage-qdrant -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/storage/grepai-storage-qdrant/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure Qdrant as the vector store for GrepAI
- deploy a local Qdrant container with persistent storage
- migrate an existing GrepAI index from GOB to Qdrant
- connect GrepAI to a managed Qdrant Cloud cluster

## Example prompts
- Configure `.grepai/config.yaml` to use a local Qdrant instance.
- Show me the Docker run command with persistent storage for Qdrant.
- Explain how to migrate my GrepAI GOB index over to Qdrant.

# GrepAI Storage with Qdrant

This skill covers using Qdrant as the storage backend for GrepAI, offering high-performance vector search.

## When to Use This Skill

- Need fastest possible search performance
- Very large codebases (50K+ files)
- Already using Qdrant infrastructure
- Want advanced vector search features

## What is Qdrant?

Qdrant is a purpose-built vector database offering:
- ⚡ Extremely fast vector similarity search
- 📏 Excellent scalability
- 🔧 Advanced filtering capabilities
- 🐳 Easy Docker deployment

## Prerequisites

1. Qdrant server running
2. Network access to Qdrant

## Advantages

| Benefit | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| ⚡ **Performance** | Fastest vector search |
| 📏 **Scalability** | Handles millions of vectors |
| 🔍 **Advanced** | Filtering, payloads, sharding |
| 🐳 **Easy deploy** | Docker-ready |
| ☁️ **Cloud option** | Qdrant Cloud available |

## Setting Up Qdrant

### Option 1: Docker (Recommended)

```bash
# Run Qdrant with persistent storage
docker run -d \
  --name grepai-qdrant \
  -p 6333:6333 \
  -p 6334:6334 \
  -v qdrant_storage:/qdrant/storage \
  qdrant/qdrant
```

Ports:
- `6333`: REST API
- `6334`: gRPC API (used by GrepAI)

### Option 2: Docker Compose

```yaml
# docker-compose.yml
version: '3.8'
services:
  qdrant:
    image: qdrant/qdrant
    ports:
      - "6333:6333"
      - "6334:6334"
    volumes:
      - qdrant_storage:/qdrant/storage
    environment:
      - QDRANT__SERVICE__GRPC_PORT=6334
volumes:
  qdrant_storage:
```

```bash
docker-compose up -d
```

### Option 3: Qdrant Cloud

1. Sign up at [cloud.qdrant.io](https://cloud.qdrant.io)
2. Create a cluster
3. Get your endpoint and API key

## Configuration

### Basic Configuration (Local)

```yaml
# .grepai/config.yaml
store:
  backend: qdrant
  qdrant:
    endpoint: localhost
    port: 6334
```

### With TLS (Production)

```yaml
store:
  backend: qdrant
  qdrant:
    endpoint: qdrant.company.com
    port: 6334
    use_tls: true
```

### With API Key (Qdrant Cloud)

```yaml
store:
  backend: qdrant
  qdrant:
    endpoint: your-cluster.aws.cloud.qdrant.io
    port: 6334
    use_tls: true
    api_key: ${QDRANT_API_KEY}
```

Set the environment variable:
```bash
