## What it does

This skill guides coding agents through GrepAI codebase analysis. GrepAI indexes any plain text file for semantic search by chunking code into embeddings. However, call graph tracing requires syntax parsing and works only on select languages: Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, PHP, C, C++, Rust, Zig, C#, Java, and Pascal.

The skill supplies configuration patterns for `.grepai/config.yaml`, showing how to enable specific extensions and ignore test files. It distinguishes between fast regex-based parsing and precise tree-sitter call extraction. It also provides the `grepai status` command to inspect indexed file types before running deep queries.

GrepAI identifies file types solely by their extension. Shebang lines such as `#!/usr/bin/env python` and file contents are completely ignored during language detection.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-languages -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/grepai-languages/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/grepai-languages/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-languages -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/grepai-languages/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-languages -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/grepai-languages/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills grepai-languages
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/grepai-languages/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-languages -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --path skills/advanced/grepai-languages
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/grepai-languages/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills --skill grepai-languages -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/grepai-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/advanced/grepai-languages/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Check if your language supports call graph tracing in GrepAI
- Configure enabled_languages and exclude_patterns in .grepai/config.yaml
- Switch between fast regex and precise tree-sitter trace modes
- Troubleshoot missing call graphs for unhandled script extensions

## Example prompts
- Does GrepAI support call graph tracing for Swift and Kotlin?
- Show me a .grepai/config.yaml setup to exclude tests in Go and TypeScript
- How do I check which file types are currently indexed by GrepAI?

# GrepAI Supported Languages

This skill covers the programming languages supported by GrepAI for indexing and call graph analysis.

## When to Use This Skill

- Checking if your language is supported
- Configuring language-specific settings
- Understanding trace capabilities per language
- Troubleshooting language-related issues

## Supported Languages Overview

GrepAI supports indexing for **all text-based files**, but has enhanced support for specific programming languages.

### Full Support (Index + Trace)

| Language | Extensions | Index | Trace |
|----------|------------|-------|-------|
| Go | `.go` | ✅ | ✅ |

## Language Configuration

### Enabling/Disabling Languages for Trace

```yaml
# .grepai/config.yaml
trace:
  enabled_languages:
    - .go
    - .js
    - .ts
    - .jsx
    - .tsx
    - .py
    - .php
    - .rs
    - .c
    - .cpp
    - .cs
    - .java
```

### Excluding Certain Extensions

```yaml
trace:
  enabled_languages:
    - .go
    # Exclude JavaScript intentionally
    # - .js
  exclude_patterns:
    - "*_test.go"
    - "*.spec.ts"
```

## Language-Specific Tips

### Go

```yaml
trace:
  enabled_languages:
    - .go
  exclude_patterns:
    - "*_test.go"
    - "mock_*.go"
    - "*_mock.go"
```

**Trace accuracy:** Excellent. Go's explicit syntax makes tracing very reliable.

### JavaScript/TypeScript

```yaml
trace:
  enabled_languages:
    - .js
    - .jsx
    - .ts
    - .tsx
  exclude_patterns:
    - "*.test.js"
    - "*.spec.ts"
    - "*.d.ts"  # Type declarations
```

**Trace accuracy:** Good. Some dynamic patterns may be missed.

### Python

```yaml
trace:
  enabled_languages:
    - .py
