## What it does

This skill walks through GPU node pools in Kubernetes for inference and training. It covers installing the NVIDIA GPU Operator with Helm, a standalone device plugin manifest for clusters that skip the operator, and MIG configuration for A100 and H100 cards.

For GPUs without MIG support, such as A10 and L4, the skill shows time-slicing so several pods share one physical card. It also ships a ServiceMonitor for DCGM and Prometheus alert rules covering temperature, memory pressure, ECC and Xid errors.

You need a Kubernetes 1.28+ cluster with GPU nodes, NVIDIA drivers (535+ is the recommendation), Helm 3 and a Prometheus stack. Skip the device plugin and pods never see `nvidia.com/gpu` in their resource limits, so check `kubectl get nodes -o json` before you debug the workload itself.

## Requirements
- Works with: Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill gpu-kubernetes-operations -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill gpu-kubernetes-operations -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill gpu-kubernetes-operations -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills gpu-kubernetes-operations
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill gpu-kubernetes-operations -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path infrastructure/local-ai/gpu-kubernetes-operations
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/gpu-kubernetes-operations/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill gpu-kubernetes-operations -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- set up GPU node pools for inference workloads
- install the NVIDIA device plugin and GPU Operator
- split an A100 or H100 into isolated MIG instances
- enable time-slicing on GPUs without MIG support
- wire Prometheus alerts for GPU temperature and memory

## Example prompts
- Help me install the GPU Operator in my Kubernetes cluster
- How do I split an A100 into 1g.10gb MIG instances for inference?
- Set up time-slicing on L4 so four pods share one GPU

# GPU Kubernetes Operations

Run resilient and cost-efficient GPU clusters for production AI workloads.

## When to Use This Skill

- Setting up GPU node pools in Kubernetes for AI inference or training
- Configuring NVIDIA device plugin and GPU operator
- Implementing MIG partitioning to share GPUs across workloads
- Building GPU-aware autoscaling policies
- Monitoring GPU health with DCGM and Prometheus
- Troubleshooting GPU scheduling, driver, or OOM issues

## Prerequisites

- Kubernetes 1.28+ cluster with GPU-capable nodes
- NVIDIA GPUs (A10, L4, A100, H100, or similar)
- NVIDIA drivers installed on nodes (535+ recommended)
- Helm 3 for operator and plugin installation
- Prometheus stack for metrics collection

## NVIDIA GPU Operator Installation

The GPU Operator automates driver, toolkit, device plugin, and DCGM deployment.

```bash
# Add NVIDIA Helm repo
helm repo add nvidia https://helm.ngc.nvidia.com/nvidia
helm repo update
# Install GPU Operator
helm install gpu-operator nvidia/gpu-operator \
  --namespace gpu-operator \
  --create-namespace \
  --set driver.enabled=true \
  --set toolkit.enabled=true \
  --set devicePlugin.enabled=true \
  --set dcgmExporter.enabled=true \
  --set migManager.enabled=true \
  --set nodeStatusExporter.enabled=true \
  --version v24.3.0
# Verify installation
kubectl get pods -n gpu-operator
kubectl get nodes -o json | jq '.items[].status.allocatable["nvidia.com/gpu"]'
```

## NVIDIA Device Plugin (Standalone)

If not using the GPU Operator, deploy the device plugin directly.

```yaml
# nvidia-device-plugin.yaml
apiVersion: apps/v1
kind: DaemonSet
metadata:
  name: nvidia-device-plugin
  namespace: kube-system
spec:
