## What it does

This skill drives Google search queries through the `browser-use` CLI with the `--browser real` flag. Running against a live browser session keeps your active cookies, which cuts down on anti-bot verification challenges during research tasks.

The execution flow first locates the binary via `which browser-use` or `python3 -m site --user-base`. Once Google results load, the agent inspects the page state, selects links by their numeric index, and produces a summary of 3 to 6 bullet points with citations. If live rendering fails, it falls back to a plain text scrape using `curl` against `r.jina.ai`.

You need Python and `browser-use` installed in your user environment before running searches. Whenever a CAPTCHA triggers, you must resolve it manually inside the spawned window.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --skill google-search-browser-use -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/google-search-browser-use/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --skill google-search-browser-use -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --skill google-search-browser-use -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Grasseed/google-search-browser-use google-search-browser-use
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --skill google-search-browser-use -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --path skills/google-search-browser-use
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Grasseed/google-search-browser-use --skill google-search-browser-use -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Grasseed/google-search-browser-use/tree/HEAD/skills/google-search-browser-use/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- query Google without getting blocked by anti-bot checks
- navigate to specific search results using numbered element indexes
- summarize live web pages into cited bullet points
- fetch clean text versions of stubborn sites using r.jina.ai

## Example prompts
- Search Google for recent browser-use updates and give me a 4-bullet summary with links.
- Look up the latest Python release on Google and open the official announcement page.

# Google Search Browser Use

## Overview

Run Google searches with `browser-use` (prefer real browser mode), open results, and extract the relevant snippets or page content. This skill leverages the user's existing browser session to reduce CAPTCHAs.

## Prerequisites

Before running the search, ensure the environment is ready:

1.  **Check Installation**:
    Verify if `browser-use` is available in the current PATH.
    ```bash
    which browser-use
    ```

2.  **Install if Missing**:
    If not found, install it using pip.
    ```bash
    python3 -m pip install --user browser-use
    ```

3.  **Locate Binary**:
    If the command is still not found after installation, it is likely in the user's local bin directory. Retrieve the path dynamically:
    ```bash
    python3 -m site --user-base
    # The binary is typically at <USER_BASE>/bin/browser-use
    ```

## Workflow

### 1) Launch a Google search (Real Browser Mode)

Use the real browser to reuse the user’s logged-in session.

**Option A: Standard Execution**
```bash
browser-use --browser real open "https://www.google.com/search?q=YOUR+QUERY"
```

**Option B: Explicit Path Execution**
If Option A fails (command not found), use the full path found in Prerequisites:
```bash
# Example (adjust based on 'python3 -m site --user-base' output):
${HOME}/Library/Python/3.14/bin/browser-use --browser real open "https://www.google.com/search?q=YOUR+QUERY"
```
*(Note: Replace `3.14` with your current Python version if different)*

### 2) Inspect results and parse

Once the browser is open:

```bash
# Check current page state
browser-use --browser real state
# Click on a search result (use index from state output)
browser-use --browser real click <index>
```

### 3) Extract or Summarize

- **Goal**: Provide a short summary (3-6 bullets) with source citations.
- **Fallback**: If `browser-use` struggles with parsing, use `curl` with Jina AI for a text-friendly version:
    ```bash
    curl -L "https://r.jina.ai/https://example.com"
    ```

### 4) Close the Session

```bash
browser-use close
```

## Troubleshooting

- **CAPTCHAs**: If encountered, solve them manually in the open browser window.
- **Path Issues**: If `browser-use` cannot be called directly, always prefer finding the path via `python3 -m site --user-base` rather than guessing.
