## What it does

The skill ships two TypeScript utilities: `assets/webhook-sender.ts` for sending and `assets/card-builder.ts` for assembling cards. It also carries an inline widget reference for cardsV2 — `textParagraph`, `decoratedText`, `buttonList`, `image`, `divider` — plus a table of known icons such as `STAR` and `EMAIL`.

Google Chat does not use standard Markdown. Bold is `*text*`, italic is `_text_`, a link is `<url|text>`. Double asterisks, headings and tables get no support, so the agent will not reach for them.

You need a webhook URL before the first send: open the space in Google Chat, go to Manage webhooks, create one and copy the address. The skill advises keeping it in an environment variable or a secrets manager rather than in code — a hardcoded URL leaks with the repository.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill google-chat-messages -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/google-chat-messages/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/google-chat-messages/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill google-chat-messages -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/google-chat-messages/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill google-chat-messages -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/google-chat-messages/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jezweb/claude-skills google-chat-messages
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/google-chat-messages/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill google-chat-messages -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jezweb/claude-skills --path plugins/integrations/skills/google-chat-messages
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/google-chat-messages/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill google-chat-messages -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- post a build notification into a Google Chat space
- build a cardsV2 card with a status and an action button
- reply inside an existing thread
- write a reusable webhook sender utility
- debug a card or thread that renders wrong

## Example prompts
- Post a build-finished message to Google Chat with a link to the build
- Build a cardsV2 card with service status and a dashboard button
- Reply in this webhook's thread with a new card

# Google Chat Messages

Send messages to Google Chat spaces via incoming webhooks. Produces text messages, rich cards (cardsV2), and threaded replies.

## What You Produce

- Text messages with Google Chat formatting
- Rich card messages (cardsV2) with headers, sections, widgets
- Threaded conversations
- Reusable webhook sender utility

## Workflow

### Step 1: Get Webhook URL

In Google Chat:
1. Open a Space > click space name > **Manage webhooks**
2. Create webhook (name it, optionally add avatar URL)
3. Copy the webhook URL

Store the URL as an environment variable or in your secrets manager — never hardcode.

### Step 2: Choose Message Type

| Need | Type | Complexity |
|------|------|------------|
| Simple notification | Text message | Low |
| Structured info (status, digest) | Card message (cardsV2) | Medium |
| Ongoing updates | Threaded replies | Medium |
| Action buttons (open URL) | Card with buttonList | Medium |

### Step 3: Send the Message

Use `assets/webhook-sender.ts` for the sender utility. Use `assets/card-builder.ts` for structured card construction.

## Text Formatting

Google Chat does NOT use standard Markdown.

| Format | Syntax | Example |
|--------|--------|---------|
| Bold | `*text*` | `*important*` |
| Italic | `_text_` | `_emphasis_` |
| Strikethrough | `~text~` | `~removed~` |
| Monospace | `` `text` `` | `` `code` `` |
| Code block | ` ```text``` ` | Multi-line code |
| Link | `<url\|text>` | `<https://example.com\|Click here>` |
| Mention user | `<users/USER_ID>` | `<users/123456>` |
| Mention all | `<users/all>` | `<users/all>` |

**Not supported**: `**double asterisks**`, headings (`###`), blockquotes, tables, images inline.

### Text Message Example

```typescript
await sendText(webhookUrl, '*Build Complete*\n\nBranch: `main`\nStatus: Passed\n<https://ci.example.com/123|View Build>');
```

## cardsV2 Structure

Cards use the cardsV2 format (recommended over legacy cards).

```typescript
const message = {
  cardsV2: [{
    cardId: 'unique-id',
    card: {
      header: {
        title: 'Card Title',
        subtitle: 'Optional subtitle',
        imageUrl: 'https://example.com/icon.png',
        imageType: 'CIRCLE'  // or 'SQUARE'
      },
      sections: [{
        header: 'Section Title',  // optional
        widgets: [
          // widgets go here
        ]
      }]
    }
  }]
};
```

## Widget Reference

All widget types available in cardsV2 sections.
