## What it does

This skill guides the coding agent through setting up globe.gl via ESM imports or script tags, as well as `react-globe.gl`. It follows a clear workflow: confirm the runtime environment, generate a minimal setup snippet, and apply layer-specific fields. Interactions and extra layers are added only when requested.

Supported visualizations include points, arcs, polygons, paths, heatmaps, hex bins, and custom 3D objects. Container dimensions must be defined explicitly in CSS. The globe automatically fills its parent element.

For mobile screens, reducing point count and size is necessary to prevent WebGL lag. The skill also suggests using a darker globe texture if you need high-contrast neon data overlays.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill globe-gl -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/globe-gl/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/globe-gl/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill globe-gl -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/globe-gl/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill globe-gl -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/globe-gl/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MengTo/Skills globe-gl
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/globe-gl/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill globe-gl -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MengTo/Skills --path agent-skills/web-design/globe-gl
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/globe-gl/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill globe-gl -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- embed a 3D globe using ESM modules or standard script tags
- render geospatial data as arcs, points, or country polygons
- integrate globe.gl into a React application using react-globe.gl
- adjust WebGL container sizing and mobile rendering performance

## Example prompts
- Create a 3D globe in plain HTML using globe.gl showing flight arcs
- Add a react-globe.gl component with country polygons and a dark texture
- Set up a ThreeJS globe that plots coordinates from a JSON points dataset

# Globe.GL Skill

## Workflow
1. Confirm environment (plain HTML, framework, React bindings) and the data layers needed.
2. Provide a minimal quick-start snippet plus the layer-specific fields.
3. Add interactions or extra layers only if requested.
4. Call out container sizing and performance considerations.

## Quick start (ESM)
```html
<script type="module">
  import Globe from 'globe.gl';
  const myGlobe = new Globe(document.getElementById('globe'))
    .globeImageUrl(myImageUrl)
    .pointsData(myData);
</script>
```

## Quick start (script tag)
```html
<script src="//cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/globe.gl"></script>
<script>
  const myGlobe = new Globe(document.getElementById('globe'))
    .globeImageUrl(myImageUrl)
    .pointsData(myData);
</script>
```

## Common layers to mention
- Points
- Arcs
- Polygons
- Paths
- Heatmaps and hex bins
- Labels or HTML elements
- 3D objects and custom layers

## Practical tips
- Size the container with CSS; the globe fills its parent element.
- Reduce point count or size for performance on mobile.
- Use a darker globe texture for neon-style data overlays.

## Questions to ask when specs are missing
- Which layers do you need (points, arcs, polygons, labels)?
- What should the globe size be on desktop vs mobile?
- Do you want drag/rotate interactions or a static globe?
- Is this plain HTML, React (`react-globe.gl`), or another framework?
