## What it does

The skill fires when you ask the agent for a frosted card, a glass nav bar, a modal or a liquid-glass hero. It builds each panel from four parts: `backdrop-filter: blur()` with `saturate()`, a translucent fill around 0.08–0.18 alpha, a border brighter than the fill, and layered `box-shadow` with an outer drop plus an inset top highlight. Skip any one of them and you get a plain see-through box.

Recipes live in `references/glass-recipes.md`: a masked 1px ring drawn with `::before`, `feTurbulence` grain at low opacity through `::after` to kill gradient banding, and an SVG `feDisplacementMap` filter that bends the background through the panel. Motion targets the glass itself — frost deepening, highlight brightening, the panel lifting — rather than the geometry. There is a performance section too: every glass element re-blurs what sits behind it, so a dozen on screen drags scroll FPS, and nested `backdrop-filter` elements cost quadratically.

\`backdrop-filter` only blurs what is behind the element. Over a flat fill it does nothing you can see, so glass needs a busy backdrop: a photo, a gradient, a video. The skill ships fallbacks for `prefers-reduced-transparency`, `prefers-reduced-motion` and `@supports not (backdrop-filter: blur(1px))`. For text over photos it advises a darkening scrim underneath and checking contrast against the brightest part of the backdrop — 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iart-ai/web-animation-skills --skill glassmorphism -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/glassmorphism/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iart-ai/web-animation-skills --skill glassmorphism -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iart-ai/web-animation-skills --skill glassmorphism -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install iart-ai/web-animation-skills glassmorphism
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iart-ai/web-animation-skills --skill glassmorphism -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/iart-ai/web-animation-skills --path skills/glassmorphism
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iart-ai/web-animation-skills --skill glassmorphism -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/iart-ai/web-animation-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/glassmorphism/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a glass card sitting over a photo
- ship a frosted nav bar that stays readable
- add a liquid-glass hero with background refraction
- remove banding under heavy blur
- keep a fallback for readers who disable transparency

## Example prompts
- Add a glassmorphism effect to the pricing card over the hero photo
- Make a frosted nav bar with a lit edge and a lift on hover
- Build a liquid-glass hero with SVG refraction and a slow specular sweep

# Glassmorphism (Frosted & Liquid Glass)

Translucent, frosted UI: panels you can see through, blurred so the backdrop reads as soft color, rimmed by a bright edge of light, floating on layered shadow. The 2026 "liquid glass" evolution adds refraction — the background visibly bends through the panel — plus moving specular highlights. The goal is depth and material, not just opacity.

## When to use

- Frosted cards, nav bars, sidebars, modals/dialogs, and toolbars over busy/photo backgrounds
- Login/hero panels and overlays that should feel layered above the page
- Apple-style "liquid glass" heroes: refracting, slowly churning surfaces with a specular sweep
- Hover/scroll/enter motion on glass — frost deepening, highlight brightening, the panel lifting
- Any place where content needs to read as floating glass while staying legible

## The four ingredients of believable glass

Glass is never one property. Every panel needs all four, or it reads as a plain translucent box:

1. **Frost** — `backdrop-filter: blur()` plus `saturate()` to keep backdrop color vivid through the blur.
2. **Translucency** — a `background` with alpha (~0.08–0.18), never fully opaque, never fully clear.
3. **Edge of glass** — a hairline border *brighter* than the fill, ideally a lit top-left → dim bottom-right highlight, so the rim catches light.
4. **Depth** — layered `box-shadow`: an ambient drop shadow to float it, plus an `inset` top highlight and bottom shade to round the surface.

```css
.glass {
  background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.12);
  backdrop-filter: blur(16px) saturate(160%);
  -webkit-backdrop-filter: blur(16px) saturate(160%); /* Safari needs the prefix */
  border-radius: 20px;
  border: 1px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.25);
  box-shadow:
