# gitlab-cli-skills

A skill that puts GitLab operations in your agent's hands: merge requests, issues, pipelines, releases. Useful when the agent should open an MR or check CI on its own.

## What it does

The skill hands your agent a reference for `glab` plus workflows for GitLab work from the terminal. It routes requests to sub-skills: `glab-mr` for merge requests, `glab-issue` for issues, `glab-ci` for pipelines and logs, `glab-repo` for repositories, along with releases, labels, milestones, packages, auth and config. Each sub-skill sits in a sibling directory with its own `SKILL.md`.

You need `glab` installed and a login through `glab auth login` — the token lands in the active global glab config. `cosign` is optional. Some workflows touch sensitive files: the SSH key `~/.ssh/id_rsa` for DPoP and `~/.docker/config.json` for registry auth. Scripts can post comments, resolve threads and approve merge requests on your behalf, so read `scripts/post-inline-comment.py` before letting an agent run it unattended.

Identity is the part worth slowing down for. Several personal access tokens on one GitLab user still show up as the same visible author, so different agents need separate bot or service accounts. Before any write, the skill tells you to run `glab auth status --hostname "$GITLAB_HOST"` and `glab api --hostname "$GITLAB_HOST" user`. If another env file was sourced earlier in the same shell, `glab` may quietly write as that older identity. Check before the first comment, not after.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitLab

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --skill gitlab-cli-skills -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --skill gitlab-cli-skills -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --skill gitlab-cli-skills -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills gitlab-cli-skills
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --skill gitlab-cli-skills -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --path gitlab-cli-skills
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills --skill gitlab-cli-skills -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills/tree/HEAD/gitlab-cli-skills/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- open a merge request from the current branch
- check pipeline status and read a failed job log
- file an issue and attach labels
- cut a release with a version tag
- confirm which GitLab user will author a comment

## Example prompts
- create an MR from the current branch with glab
- show the latest pipeline status and the log of the failed job
- run glab auth status and tell me which user I'm logged in as
