# github-ops

Operates GitHub state through gh and API calls, then reads the result back separately. Use it for pull requests, issues, repositories, and access settings.

## What it does

github-ops handles GitHub-hosted state for pull requests, issues, repositories, collaborators, and organisation settings. It also covers GitHub Actions, secrets, variables, branch protection, and publishing images to GHCR.

Before a change, the skill separates inspection from writes and resolves the account, host, and exact target. An accepted API response is not treated as proof that the requested state changed, so it performs an independent readback. That matters when a change is public, destructive, or affects credentials.

For `gh` operations, `checked_gh.py` checks the expected account and host before running a command. It requires `uv` and Python. The helper does not guard browser actions, connector calls, or Git pushes.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill github-ops -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/github-ops/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/github-ops/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill github-ops -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/github-ops/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill github-ops -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/github-ops/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daymade/claude-code-skills github-ops
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/github-ops/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill github-ops -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills --path github-ops
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/github-ops/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill github-ops -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills/tree/HEAD/github-ops/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a pull request and confirm its state
- change organisation member permissions
- rerun or cancel GitHub Actions
- protect a default branch
- verify an API write independently

## Example prompts
- Create a pull request in `OWNER/REPO` and verify that its fields changed.
- Inspect organisation permissions and two-factor authentication settings.
- Cancel the GitHub Actions run in `OWNER/REPO` and confirm its status.

# GitHub Operations

Deliver the requested GitHub state, not a successful-looking command. A `200`, `201`,
`202`, or `204` response is evidence that GitHub accepted a request; it is not proof
that every requested field changed, an invitation was accepted, an asynchronous job
finished, or the user's business outcome was achieved.
