## What it does

The skill looks at which AI libraries the project already uses, then turns on Sentry tracing for them. It greps `package.json`, `requirements.txt` or `pyproject.toml`, then picks the matching integration: `openAIIntegration()`, `anthropicAIIntegration()`, `vercelAIIntegration()`, `langChainIntegration()`, `googleGenAIIntegration()` on JavaScript, or the auto-enabled ones on Python.

Tracing has to be on first. Set `tracesSampleRate` or `traces_sample_rate` above zero or no AI spans show up at all. Browser code and Next.js meta-framework apps get no auto-instrumentation, so the OpenAI client needs manual wrapping with `instrumentOpenAiClient`. When nothing supported is installed, the skill falls back to manual spans with `gen_ai.request`, `gen_ai.invoke_agent`, `gen_ai.execute_tool` and attributes such as `gen_ai.usage.input_tokens`.

Prompt and response capture stays off unless you ask for it. Flip `recordInputs`/`recordOutputs` or `include_prompts` and you start collecting user content, which is likely PII. The skill asks you to confirm that before changing anything. It also suggests `tracesSampleRate: 1.0` for development only, with a lower value or a `tracesSampler` in production.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-setup-ai-monitoring -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-setup-ai-monitoring -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-setup-ai-monitoring -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-agent-skills sentry-setup-ai-monitoring
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-setup-ai-monitoring -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --path skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-setup-ai-monitoring -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/sentry-setup-ai-monitoring/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find every AI SDK installed in a project
- turn on Sentry tracing for OpenAI or Anthropic calls
- track token usage and model latency
- instrument spans by hand when no integration exists
- avoid capturing prompts that contain personal data

## Example prompts
- Set up Sentry AI agent monitoring in this project
- Instrument our Anthropic calls and show token usage
- Add LangChain tracing to the service

# Setup Sentry AI Agent Monitoring

Configure Sentry to track LLM calls, agent executions, tool usage, and token consumption.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "monitor AI/LLM calls" or "track OpenAI/Anthropic usage"
- User wants "AI observability" or "agent monitoring"
- User asks about token usage, model latency, or AI costs

**Important:** The SDK versions, API names, and code samples below are examples. Always verify against [docs.sentry.io](https://docs.sentry.io) before implementing, as APIs and minimum versions may have changed.

## Prerequisites

AI monitoring requires **tracing enabled** (`tracesSampleRate > 0`).

## Data Capture Warning

**Prompt and output recording captures user content that is likely PII.** Before enabling `recordInputs`/`recordOutputs` (JS) or `include_prompts`/`send_default_pii` (Python), confirm:

- The application's privacy policy permits capturing user prompts and model responses
- Captured data complies with applicable regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Sentry data retention settings are appropriate for the sensitivity of the data

**Ask the user** whether they want prompt/output capture enabled. Do not enable it by default — configure it only when explicitly requested or confirmed. Use `tracesSampleRate: 1.0` only in development; in production, use a lower value or a `tracesSampler` function.

## Detection First

**Always detect installed AI SDKs before configuring:**

```bash
# JavaScript
grep -E '"(openai|@anthropic-ai/sdk|ai|@langchain|@google/genai)"' package.json
# Python
grep -E '(openai|anthropic|langchain|huggingface)' requirements.txt pyproject.toml 2>/dev/null
```

## Supported SDKs

### JavaScript

| Package | Integration | Min Sentry SDK | Auto? |
|---------|-------------|----------------|-------|
| `openai` | `openAIIntegration()` | 10.28.0 | Yes |
| `@anthropic-ai/sdk` | `anthropicAIIntegration()` | 10.28.0 | Yes |
| `ai` (Vercel) | `vercelAIIntegration()` | 10.6.0 | Yes* |
