## What it does

It runs in three phases. First it inspects the project with commands like `cat package.json | grep '"react"'` to find the React version, router, state store, bundler and any existing `@sentry/react`. Then it proposes a feature set for the stack it found and guides you through the install.

Setup starts with `npm install @sentry/react --save`. The skill creates `src/instrument.ts` with a `Sentry.init()` call and tells you to import that file first in your entry point — otherwise initialization never runs. On React 19 it wires `reactErrorHandler()` into `createRoot`; on older versions it wraps the app in `Sentry.ErrorBoundary`. A router integration goes in separately: React Router v5–v7, TanStack Router, Redux, Vite or webpack.

Profiling is flagged as experimental and needs the server to send a `Document-Policy: js-profiling` header. The DSN comes from an environment variable whose name depends on the bundler: `VITE_SENTRY_DSN` for Vite, `REACT_APP_SENTRY_DSN` for CRA, `SENTRY_DSN` for custom webpack. The skill advises checking the current Sentry docs before implementing, since the API shifts between SDK versions.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-react-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-react-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-react-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-react-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-react-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-react-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-react-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-agent-skills sentry-react-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-react-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-react-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --path skills/sentry-react-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-react-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-react-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- add Sentry to a React app without reading the docs end to end
- trace page navigation in a React SPA
- turn on session replay with text and media masking
- pick the right integration for a specific React Router or TanStack Router version
- set up source maps so stack traces stay readable in Vite or webpack

## Example prompts
- add Sentry to my React app
- set up tracing and session replay for my Vite React project
- install @sentry/react and wire up an error boundary

# Sentry React SDK

Opinionated wizard that scans your React project and guides you through complete Sentry setup.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "add Sentry to React" or "set up Sentry" in a React app
- User wants error monitoring, tracing, session replay, profiling, or logging in React
- User mentions `@sentry/react`, React Sentry SDK, or Sentry error boundaries
- User wants to monitor React Router navigation, Redux state, or component performance

> **Note:** SDK versions and APIs below reflect current Sentry docs at time of writing (`@sentry/react` ≥8.0.0).
> Always verify against [docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/react/](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/react/) before implementing.

## Phase 1: Detect

Run these commands to understand the project before making any recommendations:

```bash
# Detect React version
cat package.json | grep -E '"react"|"react-dom"'
# Check for existing Sentry
cat package.json | grep '"@sentry/'
# Detect router
cat package.json | grep -E '"react-router-dom"|"@tanstack/react-router"'
# Detect state management
cat package.json | grep -E '"redux"|"@reduxjs/toolkit"'
# Detect build tool
ls vite.config.ts vite.config.js webpack.config.js craco.config.js 2>/dev/null
cat package.json | grep -E '"vite"|"react-scripts"|"webpack"'
# Detect logging libraries
cat package.json | grep -E '"pino"|"winston"|"loglevel"'
# Check for companion backend in adjacent directories
ls ../backend ../server ../api 2>/dev/null
cat ../go.mod ../requirements.txt ../Gemfile ../pom.xml 2>/dev/null | head -3
```

**What to determine:**

| Question | Impact |
|----------|--------|
| React 19+? | Use `reactErrorHandler()` hook pattern |
| React <19? | Use `Sentry.ErrorBoundary` |
| `@sentry/react` already present? | Skip install, go straight to feature config |
| `react-router-dom` v5 / v6 / v7? | Determines which router integration to use |
| `@tanstack/react-router`? | Use `tanstackRouterBrowserTracingIntegration()` |
| Redux in use? | Recommend `createReduxEnhancer()` |
| Vite detected? | Source maps via `sentryVitePlugin` |
