# sentry-cocoa-sdk

This skill walks the agent through a full Sentry setup in a Swift or ObjC app: it scans the project, proposes a feature set, and hands over init code.

## What it does

The skill acts as a wizard. It runs grep commands over `Package.swift`, `Podfile` and `Cartfile` to see whether `sentry-cocoa` is already there, then checks for SwiftUI or UIKit and the deployment targets. From that it proposes a concrete set — error monitoring and tracing as the baseline, profiling for production apps — and asks whether to add Session Replay and logging.

Installation goes three ways: `sentry-wizard`, Swift Package Manager, or CocoaPods. For SPM the skill warns you to pick exactly one product per target — `Sentry`, `Sentry-Dynamic`, `SentrySwiftUI` or `Sentry-WithoutUIKitOrAppKit` — since Xcode happily lets you tick several. With CocoaPods on Xcode 14 and later you may hit the `rsync.samba` sandbox error; turning off user script sandboxing in target settings clears it.

A ready init block for the SwiftUI entry point is included: DSN from an environment variable, `tracesSampleRate`, profiling via `configureProfiling`, logs via `enableLogs`. Session Replay is off by default on iOS 26 and later because of Liquid Glass rendering, so enabling it is a deliberate choice. The APIs in the skill track sentry-cocoa 9.5.1, and it tells you to check Sentry docs before implementing.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-cocoa-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-cocoa-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-cocoa-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-agent-skills sentry-cocoa-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-cocoa-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --path skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-agent-skills --skill sentry-cocoa-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/sentry-cocoa-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire Sentry into a Swift project without reading the docs end to end
- tell whether the app uses SwiftUI or UIKit
- pick a single SPM product instead of several in Xcode
- set up tracing and profiling at the app entry point
- get past the rsync.samba error on a CocoaPods install

## Example prompts
- add Sentry to my SwiftUI iOS app
- set up sentry-cocoa with error monitoring, tracing and profiling
- check my Package.swift and suggest which Sentry features to enable

# Sentry Cocoa SDK

Opinionated wizard that scans your Apple project and guides you through complete Sentry setup.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "add Sentry to iOS/macOS/tvOS" or "set up Sentry" in an Apple app
- User wants error monitoring, tracing, profiling, session replay, or logging in Swift/ObjC
- User mentions `sentry-cocoa`, `SentrySDK`, or the Apple/iOS Sentry SDK
- User wants to monitor crashes, app hangs, watchdog terminations, or performance

> **Note:** SDK versions and APIs below reflect Sentry docs at time of writing (sentry-cocoa 9.5.1).
> Always verify against [docs.sentry.io/platforms/apple/](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/apple/) before implementing.

## Phase 1: Detect

Run these commands to understand the project before making any recommendations:

```bash
# Check existing Sentry dependency
grep -i sentry Package.swift Podfile Cartfile 2>/dev/null
# Detect UI framework (SwiftUI vs UIKit)
grep -rE "@main|struct.*App.*:.*App" --include="*.swift" . 2>/dev/null | head -5
grep -rE "AppDelegate|UIApplicationMain" --include="*.swift" . 2>/dev/null | head -5
# Detect platform and deployment targets
grep -E "platforms:|\.iOS|\.macOS|\.tvOS|\.watchOS|\.visionOS" Package.swift 2>/dev/null
grep -E "platform :ios|platform :osx|platform :tvos|platform :watchos" Podfile 2>/dev/null
# Detect logging
grep -rE "import OSLog|os\.log|CocoaLumberjack|DDLog" --include="*.swift" . 2>/dev/null | head -5
# Detect companion backend
ls ../backend ../server ../api 2>/dev/null
ls ../go.mod ../requirements.txt ../Gemfile ../package.json 2>/dev/null
```

**What to note:**
- Is `sentry-cocoa` already in `Package.swift` or `Podfile`? If yes, skip to Phase 2 (configure features).
- SwiftUI (`@main App` struct) or UIKit (`AppDelegate`)? Determines init pattern.
- Which Apple platforms? (Affects which features are available — see Platform Support Matrix.)
- Existing logging library? (Enables structured log capture.)
- Companion backend? (Triggers Phase 4 cross-link for distributed tracing.)
