## What it does

The skill walks the network layer of a Roblox game step by step. First the agent finds every remote and both endpoints, documenting direction, sender, payload, frequency and authority. Then it classifies each message as a client request, a server fact or an ephemeral cosmetic sample. Transport choice follows from that, not from convenience.

Two code patterns ship with it. One validates before touching gameplay state: type and Instance class, ancestry under Workspace.Characters, live Humanoid, distance, and a server cooldown. The other is a token bucket at the boundary with capacity and refill rate. A table spells out when to reach for RemoteEvent, when UnreliableRemoteEvent fits, and when RemoteFunction is the right call.

Ordering is the part people get wrong. RemoteEvent messages arrive in send order, but that only covers when each handler starts. If a handler yields on `task.wait` or `WaitForChild`, the next message from the same player can begin before it resumes, so check-then-yield-then-apply code approves two requests. Claim the cooldown before the first yield. The skill targets Roblox's rolling platform APIs and does not replace the basics covered by `roblox-luau`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --skill roblox-networking -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/roblox-networking/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/roblox-networking/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --skill roblox-networking -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/roblox-networking/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --skill roblox-networking -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/roblox-networking/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills roblox-networking
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/roblox-networking/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --skill roblox-networking -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --path skills/other-engines/roblox-networking
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/roblox-networking/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills --skill roblox-networking -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- stop remotes from trusting client-supplied values
- block exploiters from targeting arbitrary Instances
- put a rate budget on request spam
- fix client and server disagreement
- replicate narrowly instead of broadcasting everything

## Example prompts
- Audit every remote in this project and write down its contract: direction, payload, frequency, validation
- Add a token bucket at the boundary for Attack and stop trusting the target from the client
- Figure out why requests still pass with a stale character after respawn

# Roblox networking

Build explicit request and replication contracts in which the server decides authoritative game
state and clients provide input or intent. Targets Roblox's rolling platform APIs. This skill goes
deeper than the networking primer in `roblox-luau`.

## When to use

- Use to design, implement, debug, or secure cross-boundary Roblox communication.
- Use when a remote trusts client values, an exploiter can target arbitrary Instances, messages
  spam services, streamed objects are missing, or clients disagree with the server.

**When not to use:** basic Luau/services belong to `roblox-luau`; persistent state belongs to
`roblox-datastores`; physical ownership mechanics also compose with `roblox-physics`.

## Workflow

1. **Inspect the existing protocol.** Find every remote and both endpoints; document direction,
   sender, payload, frequency, authority, validation, and consumers. Reuse the canonical remote
   folder—do not create a duplicate because discovery was skipped.
2. **Classify each message.** Client request, server fact, or ephemeral cosmetic sample. Choose
   reliable event, unreliable event, or request/response from semantics—not convenience.
3. **Minimize the payload.** Send stable identifiers and intent. Do not send a price, damage,
   ownership result, arbitrary path, or computed outcome the server can derive.
4. **Validate in layers.** Check type/shape/finiteness, allowlisted value, Instance class and
   ancestry, player permissions/state, distance/line of sight where relevant, server cooldown,
   and rate budget before doing expensive work.
5. **Apply on the server.** The server resolves targets and mutates health, inventory, currency,
