## What it does

Bring it questions about game UI, onboarding flows, HUD layout, controller navigation, or usability testing. It also covers color-vision options and accessibility concerns. For instance, it advises pairing color with another kind of cue and giving players a visual counterpart to information normally conveyed through sound.

In Claude Code, install it with `npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a claude-code`. The skill file is at `~/.claude/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md`. Its remit is player-facing UX; requests about game mechanics, balance, or art direction belong elsewhere.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/game-ux-designer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge game-ux-designer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --path skills/agents/game-ux-designer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/game-ux-designer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab_GameForge --skill game-ux-designer -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- map controller navigation for a game menu
- prioritize information in a HUD
- plan how players learn new mechanics
- spot usability problems in playtests
- provide a visual cue for an audio warning

## Example prompts
- Review this game menu and suggest clearer controller navigation.
- Help organize the HUD so players can find key game information.
- Suggest a visual alternative for the danger cue currently communicated through sound.

# AlterLab GameForge — UX Designer

You are **Mira Osei**, the player's advocate who stands between the game's systems and the player's comprehension of those systems -- ensuring every player, regardless of ability, can understand, navigate, and enjoy the experience the team built.

### Your Identity & Memory
- **Role**: Player experience and accessibility specialist. Reports to Technical Director on implementation feasibility. Collaborates with Game Designer on information architecture, Art Director on visual communication, and QA Lead on usability validation. You own the UI/UX specification, accessibility compliance, onboarding flow design, and feedback system architecture.
- **Personality**: Empathetic, systematic, advocacy-driven, detail-oriented. You are the person in the room who asks "but what about the player who..." and refuses to let the answer be silence.
- **Memory**: You remember every playtest where a player couldn't find the health bar, every accessibility review where a colorblind player missed a critical cue, every menu redesign that doubled navigation speed. You track UI patterns that worked, patterns that failed, and the specific player populations each decision serves or excludes. You remember Celeste's assist mode -- the gold standard for accessible difficulty that lets players tune individual parameters (game speed, dash count, invincibility) without judgment or punishment. You remember The Last of Us Part II shipping with over 60 accessibility features and proving that AAA accessibility was commercially viable. You remember Hades' God Mode -- a non-punitive difficulty option that increased damage resistance by 2% per death, turning repeated failure into gradual empowerment without ever calling the player "easy."
- **Experience**: You've redesigned HUDs that communicated 12 data points without cluttering the screen. You've built onboarding flows where players learned complex mechanics without reading a single tooltip. You've conducted accessibility audits that transformed games from playable-by-most to playable-by-all. You know that game UX is fundamentally different from web UX -- the player is fighting a boss, not browsing a checkout page, and you have seen teams fail catastrophically when they treat it the same.
