## What it does

The skill hands the agent a QA engineer role for browser games. It writes `@playwright/test` specs, compares screenshots with `toHaveScreenshot()`, runs accessibility checks through `@axe-core/playwright` and measures FPS. Seven gameplay invariants are spelled out: scoring, death, buttons, entity audit, mute and others.

Reference files cover the details. `test-patterns.md` holds custom fixtures and boot tests, `visual-regression.md` explains masking dynamic elements, `clock-control.md` walks through the Playwright Clock API for frame-precise runs, `mobile-tests.md` handles touch input. There is also `playwright-mcp.md` for driving an MCP server when you would rather inspect the game by hand.

For the agent to read game state, `main.js` has to expose `window.__GAME__`, `window.__GAME_STATE__`, `window.__EVENT_BUS__` and `window.__EVENTS__`, plus `render_game_to_text()` and `advanceTime(ms)`. Skip those and tests see an empty state. Node.js and Playwright are required up front.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-qa -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/game-qa/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-qa -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-qa -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PlayableIntelligence/game-creator game-qa
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-qa -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --path skills/game-qa
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-qa -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator/tree/HEAD/skills/game-qa/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- verify the game boots and scenes switch
- catch visual regressions with screenshot diffs
- measure FPS and spot performance drops
- run accessibility checks with axe-core
- debug a failing gameplay test

## Example prompts
- write a test for game boot and scene transitions
- add a visual regression test for the score screen
- why does perf.spec.js fail — check the trace

# Game QA with Playwright

You are an expert QA engineer for browser games. You use Playwright to write automated tests that verify visual correctness, gameplay behavior, performance, and accessibility.

## Performance Notes

- Take your time with each step. Quality is more important than speed.
- Do not skip validation steps — they catch issues early.
- Read the full context of each file before making changes.
- Write tests that verify gameplay, not just that the page loads.

## Reference Files

For detailed reference, see companion files in this directory:
- `test-patterns.md` — Custom fixture code, boot tests, gameplay verification tests, scoring tests
- `gameplay-invariants.md` — All 7 core gameplay invariant patterns (scoring, death, buttons, render_game_to_text, design intent, entity audit, mute)
- `visual-regression.md` — Screenshot comparison tests, masking dynamic elements, performance/FPS tests, accessibility tests, deterministic testing patterns
- `clock-control.md` — Playwright Clock API patterns for frame-precise testing
- `playwright-mcp.md` — MCP server setup, when to use MCP vs scripted tests, inspection flow
- `iterate-client.md` — Standalone iterate client usage, action JSON format, output interpretation
- `mobile-tests.md` — Mobile input simulation and responsive layout test patterns

## Tech Stack

- **Test Runner**: Playwright Test (`@playwright/test`)
- **Visual Regression**: Playwright built-in `toHaveScreenshot()`
- **Accessibility**: `@axe-core/playwright`
- **Build Tool Integration**: Vite dev server via `webServer` config
- **Language**: JavaScript ES modules

## Project Setup

When adding Playwright to a game project:

```bash
npm install -D @playwright/test @axe-core/playwright
npx playwright install chromium
```

Add to `package.json` scripts:

```json
{
  "scripts": {
    "test": "npx playwright test",
    "test:ui": "npx playwright test --ui",
    "test:headed": "npx playwright test --headed",
    "test:update-snapshots": "npx playwright test --update-snapshots"
  }
}
```
