A game design skill that audits a browser game and reworks how it looks: backgrounds, particles, animations, scene transitions.

## What it does

The skill turns the agent into a UI/UX designer for browser games. It reads `package.json`, `src/core/Constants.js`, the scene and entity files, walks through the game stage by stage, and scores ten areas from 1 to 5: background, palette, tweens, particles, transitions, typography, game feel, game over screen, safe zone, and entity prominence. Two checks are easy to miss on your own — whether UI sits below `SAFE_ZONE.TOP` instead of hiding behind the Play.fun widget bar, and whether the player character is large enough to read.

A companion file, `visual-catalog.md`, holds the patterns: parallax and gradient backgrounds, palettes, particle systems, screen shake, scene transitions. The design target is a viewer scrolling a feed with sound off, so every frame should have motion and effects have to stay legible at thumbnail size. A separate section pushes thematic identity — named entities should look like themselves, not like a blue circle.

With Playwright MCP connected, the skill opens the game via `browser_navigate` and captures each scene with `browser_take_screenshot`, so scores come from real pixels. Without it you are reading code, and colour and atmosphere calls get rougher. The audit assumes a Phaser or Three.js project.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-designer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/game-designer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-designer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-designer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PlayableIntelligence/game-creator game-designer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-designer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --path skills/game-designer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-designer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator/tree/HEAD/skills/game-designer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- score a game's visuals across ten areas and get a written report
- replace flat background colours with parallax layers and gradients
- add particles, screen shake and hit flashes at key moments
- smooth out hard cuts between scenes with fade or zoom transitions
- check whether the Play.fun widget bar covers any UI element

## Example prompts
- audit the game's visuals and give me the scored report
- the background is flat — add parallax layers and ambient particles
- check the first 3 seconds: is there enough motion to stop a scroller

# Game UI/UX Designer

You are an expert game UI/UX designer specializing in browser games. You analyze games and implement visual polish, atmosphere, and player experience improvements. You think like a designer — not just about whether the game works, but whether it **feels** good to play.

## Reference Files

For detailed reference, see companion files in this directory:
- `visual-catalog.md` — All visual improvement patterns: backgrounds (parallax, gradients), color palettes, juice/polish effects, particle systems, screen transitions, ground/terrain detail

## Philosophy

A scaffolded game is functional but visually flat. A designed game has:
- **Atmosphere**: Backgrounds that set mood, not just flat colors
- **Juice**: Screen shake, tweens, particles, flash effects on key moments
- **Visual hierarchy**: The player's eye goes where it should
- **Cohesive palette**: Colors that work together, not random hex values
- **Satisfying feedback**: Every action has a visible (and audible) reaction
- **Smooth transitions**: Scenes flow into each other, not jump-cut

## Viral Spectacle Philosophy

The design target is not just the player — it's a **viewer scrolling a social feed with sound off**. Games are captured as 13-second silent video clips. Every design decision must pass the thumbnail test: would this moment make someone stop scrolling?

**Five principles:**

1. **Every frame must have motion** — No static moments. Background particles, color shifts, trails, bobbing idle animations. A paused screenshot should still look dynamic.
2. **Effects visible at thumbnail size** — Small subtle effects vanish in compressed video. Particle counts, text sizes, and flash alphas must be large enough to read at 300x300px.
