# game-deploy

Builds a browser game and publishes it to here.now or GitHub Pages. Handy when the build needs a public URL.

## What it does

The skill takes a browser game from build to public URL. It runs the build and uploads the `dist/` folder to a host. here.now is the default: static hosting with nothing to configure. GitHub Pages is the other option when deploys should go through git.

here.now publishing relies on the separate `here-now` skill, so install that first with `npx skills add heredotnow/skill --skill here-now -g`. Internet access is required, since publishing runs through `npx`. GitHub Pages needs the `gh` CLI and a repository already pushed to GitHub. The skill also writes an `npm run deploy` entry into `package.json` so later releases take one command.

Read the catch on here.now before you send the link anywhere. Without `$HERENOW_API_KEY` the upload is anonymous and lasts 24 hours; the script prints a claim URL once, and an unclaimed site is simply gone. With a key the site stays. A 404 on GitHub Pages usually comes down to `base` in `vite.config.js` not matching `/<repo-name>/`.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-deploy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/game-deploy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-deploy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-deploy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PlayableIntelligence/game-creator game-deploy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-deploy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --path skills/game-deploy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill game-deploy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator/tree/HEAD/skills/game-deploy/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- put a finished game build online with a shareable link
- wire one-command deploys into `package.json`
- republish to the same URL after changes
- move a game to GitHub Pages with git-based deploys
- debug a blank page after a fresh deploy

## Example prompts
- Deploy the game to here.now and give me the URL
- Build the game and push it to GitHub Pages
- Republish to the existing slug after the build

# Game Deployment

Deploy your browser game for public access. **here.now is the default** — instant static hosting with zero configuration. GitHub Pages is available as an alternative when you need git-based deploys.

## here.now Deployment (Default)

### Prerequisites

- The `here-now` skill installed (`npx skills add heredotnow/skill --skill here-now -g`)
- Optional: `$HERENOW_API_KEY` or `~/.herenow/credentials` for permanent hosting

### Quick Deploy

```bash
npm run build
~/.agents/skills/here-now/scripts/publish.sh dist/
```

The script outputs a live URL like `https://<slug>.here.now/`.

### Why here.now is the default

- **Zero config** — no `base` path, no git repo, no GitHub CLI required
- **Instant** — site is live immediately (no waiting for propagation)
- **No base path issues** — content served from subdomain root (`base: '/'` or default)
- **Works everywhere** — only needs `curl`, `file`, and `jq`

### Vite base path

here.now serves from the subdomain root, so use the default base path:

```js
export default defineConfig({
  base: '/',
  // ... rest of config
});
```

### IMPORTANT: Claim your site within 24 hours

Without an API key, publishes are **anonymous and expire in 24 hours**. The publish script returns a **claim URL** — the user MUST visit this URL and create a free here.now account to keep the site permanently. **The claim token is only shown once and cannot be recovered.** If they don't claim it, the site disappears.

**You MUST always tell the user about the 24-hour window and the claim URL after every anonymous publish.** This is not optional.

| Feature | Anonymous | Authenticated |
|---------|-----------|---------------|
| Expiry | **24 hours (then deleted!)** | Permanent |
| Max file size | 250 MB | 5 GB |
| Rate limit | 5/hour/IP | 60/hour/account |

To set up an API key for permanent hosting (skip the 24h window entirely):

First check if the key already exists:
`test -f .env && grep -q '^HERENOW_API_KEY=.' .env && echo "found"`
If found, export it with `set -a; . .env; set +a` and skip the prompt.

Otherwise:
1. Ask the user for their email
2. Send a magic link: `curl -sS https://here.now/api/auth/login -H "content-type: application/json" -d '{"email": "user@example.com"}'`
